'Mar Clouncil The Student Council of Lamar Union High School is a very important organi- zation in that it gives the student body the democracy it demands in its government. Its main purpose is to form and maintain an understanding bond between the faculty members and students. The membership of the Student Council includes two representatives and the president from each class, as well as the regular officers of the council. This year Ileta Faye Sterrett and Bob O'Dell served our school in the capacity of head girl and boy. Their duties were to alternately preside at council meetings, introduce assembly programs and at all times endeavor to lead and guide us. Howard Wagner and Richard Jiminez served as secretary and treasurer respectively. The sponsor of the council is Mr. Coffman. 'fir Q ' J 1 ? . 7? ,H x s. P' x Pg N 7 emor Legend We are approaching the end of the year-our last one at L. U. H. S. It has not been perfect-no year really is. We have had our sorrows as well as our joys-but we have had good friends to share them with. Our star studded class was headed by Marilyn Peecher, Vernon Bowers and B. Ann Leininger, who led us through a year of fun. A warm September evening found the Seniors clutching desperately to a swaying hay rack, and under the harvest moon we had a wonderful picnic. Remember the waterrnelons of doubtful origin? We found ourselves rather low financially so we set forth earning money which kept a good share of us busy. Our own dance, the Senior Formal, was carried out in the theme of Serenade de Siboney with gay, festive, Spanish decorations and a multicolored canopy. It proved to be as successful as we had anticipated. Then came semester exams. The midnight oil was burned in many a home preparing for the night- mares, but we finally came through with flying colors and the hope of graduating was a little brighter. Quite a few of our boys were initiated into L Club this year. We all participated in clubs and other extra-curricular activities. Three major events in the latter part of the year were the Senior Play, the Senior Assembly, and the election and installation of seven seniors into the National Honor Society. At the time this is being written it is too early to give the names of the play cast or to list those honored by being initiated into the Honor Society. . . . Now that we are on the threshold getting ready to step from the grander days in our lives our minds tum back to when we were underclassmen . . . The fall of 1946 rolled around and we marched into the halls of L. U. H. S., accomplished juniors, and prepared to take the school by Storm. When we finally settled down, we elected as officers, Ileta Faye Ster- rett, Mildred Hendrie and Marilyn Peecher. With the prom uppermost in our minds, most of our activities were money-making events. In early March we staged Murdered Alive, a hair-raising play. The junior camival was one of our most important activities as it added a great deal to our treasury. The crowning event of the year was the junior-Senior Prom. Club 47 featured a banquet at the armory cleverly carrying out a night club theme. The tables were decorated with top-hat nut cups, floating candles, and caricatures of leading students. Life-size dancing silhouettes provided a background for the tables. Dancing was held at the country club. Hat-check girls and bartenders welcomed us to the Emerald Room which further carried out the night club theme. We went to Clay Creek for our junior picnic and had an uproarious time-the best class party ever. This year Margaret Jane Baird, Bob Birkby, Bob O'Dell, Marilyn Peecher, Laurice Carlin, and Ileta Faye Sterrett were initiated into the National Honor Society. Bob O'Dell, Bill Branom, Glen Murray, George Merrill, Jack Price and Perry Kerr were taken onto the L Club. As a climax to our junior year, the student body elected Ileta Faye Sterrett, Head Girl and Bob O'Dell, Head Boy. - When we entered L. U. H. . as sophomores we had more confidence in ourselves than we did as fresh- men. That year Vernon Bowers, lleta Sterrett, and B. Ann Leininger were at the head of our class. Several of the boys excelled in sports, and Bill Noe, Vernon Bowers and Dean Ring were elected for the L Club. The girls, not to be outdone, entered into the activities of Pep Club and G.A.A. The Freshman-Sophomore play Sing for your Supper was presented that year. During our freshman year we had two parties, both of which helped us to become acquainted. Some of our members were fortunate enough to get into the Freshman-Sophomore play A Ready Made Family. We also gave Life at a Picture Show for our assembly, which proved to be a riot. And now a perfect end to the four years we have loved so much. With Commencement and Bacca- laureate close at hand, we have a deepened appreciation of all the friendships, loyalties and responsibilities that we have shared.
