This did not seem to be any handicap as they reeled off four straight victories. As the season progressed, more of the ten players gained experience and were able to make excellent con- tributions to the team. I feel that the year was a successful one with a record of 14 and 11. This record could have been im- proved only by getting the upper hand on Winfield who four times sent us down to defeat and Millpoit who was responsible for three losses. Each time we played these two teams, l could see that the difference in the ball game was confidence. I would like to say it has been a rewarding experience for me to have worked with this group of players. Terry Robinson, Coach J' W 3 he -' Y-T nv. After many hours of hard work and dedication the junior's theme, Cherish the Night, was emphasized well in the magical blue auditorium. As we entered through the huge white swan gates, the auditorium was nicely decorated with magical castle, a tropical fountain, and an elegant gazebo. The junior class elected Emily Woods and Sean Glasgow to be the year's prom king and queen. As we danced and visited among our friends the night quickly came to an end, but the memoreis will last a lifetime. The juniors and seniors will Cherish the Night forever! J 1985-86 has been the busiest year yet for FBLA. The year began in August, when the officers attended an Of- ficer Training Conference at UNA. In October, 7 members attended the Southern Region Fall Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida. Through numerous doughnut sales the club raised money for district and state competitions. The club succeeded in becoming a Rainbow Chapter through having a scavenger hunt for needy families, raising money for a scholarship fund, and having a guest speaker at a meeting. Through numerous hours of practice, our teams were ready to com- pete against teams from each of the high schools in the county. The.scholastic event of the year was held on May lst in the cafetorium. In the first competition, .the language arts team, consisting of Denise Stripling, Chris Davis, Angie Haynes, and Deana Corbett, did extremely well. However, in the last few questions, Sulligent came from behind to narrowly defeat L.C.H.S. - The second competition, Mathematics, was filled with excitement as members from each team worked frantically to beat the buzzer. Jeffrey Walker, Michelle Gann, Faith Seay, and Clint Thornton were very impressive, being only narrowly defeated by Sulligent. The Science Competition was next in the lineup. Led by Jim Davis, Neal Atkins, Christy Patrick, and Julie Glasgow, L.C.H.S. held up its tradition of victory in the Science category, making this the sixth straight year! 130 1986 COUNTY if . Half way through this competition, it was quite evident that there was ab- solutely no hope for the other schools. Finally, the biggest competi- tion of the night, the Overall Competition, rolled around. L.C.H.S. was represented well with Jim Davis, Lynn Boman, Denise Stripling, Neal Atkins, and Kaye Howard composing the final team. As Moderator Don Bell called out questions from each of the four subject areas, the lead went from school to school. With only two questions left, L.C.H.S. came from behind a 35 point deficit to edge out Sulligent by a mere 5 points. With this vic- tory, the much-coveted Overall trophy once again went to L.C.H.S. to be kept for the following year. Congratulations to Lynn Boman for winning the S500 bond by answering the most questions from L.C.H.S.! Much thanks goes out to the coaches of these teams, Mrs. Chandler, Mrs. Brame, Miss Markham, and Mr. Woods. Without the help of these fine teachers, this event would not be possible. Let us take those words to heart and learn to live by them. Some breeze through school with lit- tle or no difficulty, while others find trial and tribulation at every turn. This is where we as educators can play the greatest role, by helping that student to find the way. L.C. Just such admirable in dividuais we honor. Those who perished on January 28, 1986, those who paved the way for future explorers have left a lasting impression on the minds of all Americans. The Challenger mission was unique in that the first American civilian, a teacher, was to go into space and broadcast r lesson to students all across the nation.
