It participated in 11 football pep rallies, 10 foot- ball half-time shows, and 7 basketball pep rallies. In the latter part of September the Band marched in the Fort Bend County Fair Parade. Its district record of 20 members in the District Band was broken by placing 29 boys and girls out of Lamar's 30 entries in the District Band at tryouts at Dulles in November. This set a new South Texas record. No other AAA school can boast this accomplishment. Eighteen boys and girls went to Wharton for All-Regional tryouts and were placed in the Regional Band at BayCity. This is also a new record for Lamar as the most ever placed before this time was 9. One student made the All-State Band at Dallas. The Band played in the Christmas Concert on December 22, 1965 before school closed for the Christmas holidays. During the school year the Polka Band performed for the public a total of 6 times. The Band played for the ground-breaking ceremonies of the Richmond State School. It was selected to play a concert in the Domed Stadium on Fort Bend County night, being the only high school band to play a full concert in the Dome's center. Stage Bands 1 and 2 entered the Yoakum Ki- wanis Pestival in Yoakum, Texas, and won for the fifth consecutive year top honors among South Texas stage bands. Two trophies were awarded among all classes, and Lamar came home with both trophies. Nearly 1,000 people attended the third Band-O-Rama in Herndon Auditorium, Performing were the Con- cert Band, both Stage Bands, the Polka Band, and the Freshman Band. The Band played at the Daughters of the Texas Revolution marker dedication ceremonies at Richmond and for TV personalities of Channel 13. For the third time, the Band entered the Tri-State Band Festival in Enid, Oklahoma. The Sweep- stakes trophy was won for the third and final year, Lamar being the only AAA band to win this honor for three consecutive years. The Band received first place in the parade of 109 bands, first in sight reading, first inconcert, and 72 medals for solos and ensembles. Stage Bands 1 and 2 were selected as honor bands to play in a special concert in Enid. Upon arriving home, the Band held a recording session and presented the outstanding students with awards at the Band Banquet on May 14. To complete the great- est year the Band has ever seen, it played for graduation exercises on May 24, 1966. Throughout the school year 1965-1966, the Lamar Mustang Band made a total of 48 appearances. SL I. College. 1466- Donnie had to learn many songs to qualify for the state choir, assisted by Choir Director Joe Scarcella and his sister Janice Carden, Donnie Carden has been in the A Cappella Choir for 4 years. While in choir, Donnie was Vice President for 2' years and President his senior year. He was elected Choir Beau his sophomore year and made All-Regional and then All-State Choir his senior year. He has won several lst ratings in UIL and the Bucaneer Festival and also in madrigals. He was in a Boy's Quartet his sophomore and sen- ior year both of these groups won lst ratings in Corpus which is considered a great honor.
