BAND The main point stressed in the instrumental music classes is flexibility and how to use it. In order for a person to be flexible he must be trained in the simple every-day fundamentals of what he is doing. I-larold Waldrum VOCAL MUSIC Singing is probably the oldest form of music art. It is natural to sing. In order to enable students to enjoy vocal music to the fullest, it should be the intent of every vocal instructor to train students that, no matter when or where they sing, they will have developed for themselves a set of habits that will enable them always to sing to the fullest extent of their capabilities. ART The message of art is not necessarily a simple one or an easy oneg and it is quite le- gitimate that a painting or a statue be mean- ingless to persons at one level of education and yet be clear and explicit to those at another level who are particularly trained to understand it. Harold Waldrum PHYSICAL EDUCATION The mind is only as good as the body. To be healthy a person must be physically fit, which means his body must be able to work at its fullest efficiency. Physical activity in sports provides a release for tensions as well as teaching good sportsmanship. It helps a person to function as an individual as Well as learning to cooperate on a team. These sports give opportunities for practice in leadership, which will extend to social life. Fr ankie Summ ers Eddie Cram er

IO URNALISM The purpose of Mrs. Martin's journal- ism class is to learn the fundamentals of journalism, which are reporting and writ- ing stories. The class writes and edits the school paper, the yearbook, and the Bronc's tale. - Through her teaching of journalism, Mrs. Martin would like to improve the attitude toward the school paper. Through the paper and the yearbook, she hopes to create a better relationship between the school and the community. Lavonna Martin SPEECH Speech is the only universal means of communication. The goal in speech class is to help students to become aware of the importance of good speech, to overcome their inhibitions, to gain self-confidence, and to establish values and principles which will be an asset in any walk of life that they may choose to follow. Madison Downing DRIVEPUS ED UC AT ION In Driver's Education, the text is co- ordinated with the various phases of driv- ing. The students drive on the highway. The classes try to simulate city driving as nearly as possible. In the latter part of the year, the students practice parallel parking. Time is also spent on physical testing by various devices.
