' of Z9 0,461 Time has passed quicklyg the year is 1981. At this time the hardworking turned more and more to reading the daily newspapers. Let us take a good look at such a pa- per. The most popular newspaper in this area is the Hilltop, a combination of the Columbus Dispatch, Citizen-Journal and Newark Advocate, On the front page, bold headlines announce the nomination of Kermit Jacks by the People's Party for President of the United States. As we read further on, we find that since graduation in '61, Kermit has been quite active in civic affairs. He has backed a nationwide movement to abolish alimony and divorces in the United States. Kermit believes that once a couple is married they should stay that way, besides, his wife is sueing for divorce and wants 50, 000 dollars in alimony. She is charging cruelty in the divorce, she claims Kermit laughs and sings in the shower. Of course we all know that the great American statesman, William Higgins, is running against Kermit. Bill, as his friends call him, has been very successful in the past ten years. His campaign slogan is, A chicken in every pot is one less for me to clean. Toward the bottom of the paper we read an article about the Father of the Year Award being presented to Mr. Robert Brands. Mr. Brands has been married for six years and has eight children, four sets of twins. On the next page we catch a short, but interesting article. It seems that the ele- vator at Marcy General Hospital was stuck between the maternity floor and the isolation ward for three hours last night. The elevator operator, Judy Appleman, came through the ordeal bravely and delivered a fine, new, six-pound sledge hammer to the carpen- ters on the roof. Next to the article about the elevator operator is another story telling about a doughnut war between Shirley Clarkston and John Kittel, It seems that Miss Clarkston and Mr. Kittel were co-owners of a large doughnut bakery until an argument developed between them over how wide the holes should be in their new deluxe doughnuts. They split up, and John has a bakery across from Shirley. In the world news we see that Lynn Colley is starting another revolt in Outer Mon- golia. Up to date she has started 14 rebellions in 7 different countries. Next year she hopes to journey to Mars and see if there are any suffering people there. Also we read that Heidi Borroway's Super High-Tone missile has mis-fired again after she goofed on the figures. The paper tells that the police are chasing a desperate bank robber who stole 825, 000 from the Plain City National Bank. The thief is described as being about 5'3 , weighing 105 lbs., having dark brown hair and eyes, wearing glasses, and going by the name of Skaggy Aggie in the underworld. The F. B. I. has arrested and convicted another notorious gangster named Ellen light-fingered Walters. So far she has made three sets of counterfeit plates. The police' are trying to connect her with that man-about-town, multi-millionaire Larry McCreary. No one seems to know where Larry's money comes from, but he has plenty of it. On the Chicago north side, Duchess Mclnturf and her right-armed girl, Virginia Dead-Eye Thorp have taken over the Duchess' 18th brewery, A big gambling ring has come into being in the New York area. We read that Ace Kennon, the ring leader, has been given quite a bit of trouble from a well-known re- formist, Anne Jones and her friend, Janet Myers, who are constantly raiding Ace's ring. 35
