March 20, 1960 was the dedication date of the new Lakewood High School, a structure that offers opportunity and convenient facilities for the faculty and student body. This is a fifty-thousand foot building that is capable of facilitating 750 students. It contains nine general classrooms, two home economics rooms, two science rooms, the art and industrial arts rooms, the audi- torium which can seat 420 people, a gymnasium designed for two cross court basketball areas, a separate library, the kitchen and boiler room for school personnel and an administration area containing offices, health clinic, bookroom, and teachers' lounge. Within these many rooms, four different courses are given to pre- pare students for their life after high school: business, college pre- paratory, general, and vocational courses. 3 Title Page - - - - - - Dedication -------- Building ---------- Faculty and Administration Seniors ---------- Juniors ---- Sophornores - - Freshmen - - Activities - - Sports - - - ' ?-Nga X 1986 JP ., ., Z' T A Www J il,I'X'J k'-ffl! . 5 4, - f' K 91- ui D gfu. , O s , 1' '. At this time the hardworking turned more and more to reading the daily newspapers. Let us take a good look at such a pa- per. The most popular newspaper in this area is the Hilltop, a combination of the Columbus Dispatch, Citizen-Journal and Newark Advocate, On the front page, bold headlines announce the nomination of Kermit Jacks by the People's Party for President of the United States. As we read further on, we find that since graduation in '61, Kermit has been quite active in civic affairs. He has backed a nationwide movement to abolish alimony and divorces in the United States. Kermit believes that once a couple is married they should stay that way, besides, his wife is sueing for divorce and wants 50, 000 dollars in alimony. She is charging cruelty in the divorce, she claims Kermit laughs and sings in the shower. Of course we all know that the great American statesman, William Higgins, is running against Kermit. Bill, as his friends call him, has been very successful in the past ten years. His campaign slogan is, A chicken in every pot is one less for me to clean. Toward the bottom of the paper we read an article about the Father of the Year Award being presented to Mr. Robert Brands. Mr. Brands has been married for six years and has eight children, four sets of twins. On the next page we catch a short, but interesting article. It seems that the ele- vator at Marcy General Hospital was stuck between the maternity floor and the isolation ward for three hours last night. The elevator operator, Judy Appleman, came through the ordeal bravely and delivered a fine, new, six-pound sledge hammer to the carpen- ters on the roof. Next to the article about the elevator operator is another story telling about a doughnut war between Shirley Clarkston and John Kittel, It seems that Miss Clarkston and Mr. Kittel were co-owners of a large doughnut bakery until an argument developed between them over how wide the holes should be in their new deluxe doughnuts. They split up, and John has a bakery across from Shirley. In the world news we see that Lynn Colley is starting another revolt in Outer Mon- golia. Up to date she has started 14 rebellions in 7 different countries. Next year she hopes to journey to Mars and see if there are any suffering people there. Also we read that Heidi Borroway's Super High-Tone missile has mis-fired again after she goofed on the figures. The paper tells that the police are chasing a desperate bank robber who stole 825, 000 from the Plain City National Bank. The thief is described as being about 5'3 , weighing 105 lbs., having dark brown hair and eyes, wearing glasses, and going by the name of Skaggy Aggie in the underworld. The F. B. I. has arrested and convicted another notorious gangster named Ellen light-fingered Walters. So far she has made three sets of counterfeit plates. The police' are trying to connect her with that man-about-town, multi-millionaire Larry McCreary. No one seems to know where Larry's money comes from, but he has plenty of it. On the Chicago north side, Duchess Mclnturf and her right-armed girl, Virginia Dead-Eye Thorp have taken over the Duchess' 18th brewery, A big gambling ring has come into being in the New York area. We read that Ace Kennon, the ring leader, has been given quite a bit of trouble from a well-known re- formist, Anne Jones and her friend, Janet Myers, who are constantly raiding Ace's ring. 35 , r of 61 dy 62 For our graduation present this year, a few of the Senior class of '62 got together and, of all things, went on a trip to Hawaii and other islands, where we not only had a perfectly marvelous time, but saw many of this year's seniors. It seems like our 50th state's attractions haven't been praised too much, because everyone has been living and working there for awhile and all seem to just love all the sunny warm climate, the bright sandy beaches. We see John Bartee, the Hawaiian playboy, chasing the famil- iar hula girls, such as Tressa Cunningham, Marilyn Myer, Carol Wilson and Faye Lemmon and that sexy Mary Sex. But he stops to watch the beautifully tanned skiers, among them Julia Clay. As we stop to get some gasoline, we notice the sign which says Bruce Mercer and Rick Meadows, proprietors. We buy a newspaper and are on our way. Headlines are scientist Bill Higgins has now discovered a new type of rocket fuel, with some lovely photographs of him by Karen Holdbrook. The cartoon page by Peggy Brown and Ellen Walters is simply hysterical. The society page tells us the opera house was highlighted by Miss Anne Heston. Here is a special column of sports by Cliff Howison, who was a hunt-and-peck typist in school. Sports-wise, we also see continually the name of Sandra Dartt and Lynn Colley, because of their great basketball games. But they are nothing compared to the great kick-off by Gary Mattingly for the University of Hawaii. I see where a panty raid at the university was led by John Mills. I see where the pro- bate judge, Will Kennon, has arrested Larry McCreary again for drag racing through the Town Square of Honolulu. The Dear Jody column by Jo Anne Mauller has a special article this week about marriage counselor, Judy Appleman, and her opinions on the divorce situation. Admiral Bob Brands is commander of the submarines and has achieved the nick- name Tank. While eating inside the famous restaurant where Theresa Davis is a waitress, we notice she has a finger bandaged and is very careful of chipped ash trays. As we are leaving the restaurant, we are almost run over by Clifford Davis in his Fal- con trying to beat Carolyn Hamm's Thunderbird to the next stop. While in the park we see John Kittle and his bride, Shirley Clarkston, strolling along. Marilyn Bragg has her three-week-old baby there, showing him off. As we walk by the little huts, we see it is cleaning day for the housewives, Penny Blair, Carol Chesser, Mary Jo Felumlee, Jo Ann Melick and Agnes Smith. Next we took a tour of the hospital and met a charming intern, Dr. Alan Francis, with his assistants, Heidi Borroway, Charlotte Nutter and Ruth Pitzer. At the fashion show we see Sharon Loar modeling hairdos by Barb Jones, Janet Myers, and Doris Moomaw, while Linda Loehler, fashion consultant, describes the new fashions for the year. The tooth-paste commercial interrupts with a fill-in for Bucky Beaver, that smiling Ginny Hague. Next we see Deloris Gibson in a new highly dramatic series where she is thrown off a cliff by her loved one, and Larry Cass comes to investigate the case. 36 NIORS , 4 W1 Mm NWN X W' V p',,Qv5-QSM , ,1uW :gag ' Q,:'w,, WM , U f 4,9 - f y il V W! cl , if ' . ..
