. if - X x. Vernon A. Hinze MAN OF VISION f-lf' - W: I 1 si . ti zfgii PRINCIPALS MESSAGE Citadel 1960 is the third edition of a modern success story. It is a comprehensive look at Lakewood Senior High School as it approaches its third birthday. Af this mile- stone, Lakewood truly comes of age, for the Class of 1960 is the first graduating class which has spent its entire three year high school span on this campus. So, Lake- wood High celebrates another first in its third year, and congratulates the Class of '60, the first class truly its own. These pages picture Lakewood as it comes of age. We continue to be proud of our fine facilities, our friendly, capable fac- ulty, and particularly our serious, hard- working student body. Those who know the whole story know that, as our school has come of age, our student body has come of age too. Their beginnings, along with the flash of Sputnik l in the fall of 1957, launched them on the path of seriousness of purpose to meet the challenge of today in a rapidly changing world. Their set of fine traditions, carefully conceived, establish a true path for thousands of future students to follow. We are particularly proud of the tradition of excellence in scholastic attainment which our students have established here in these three brief years. They have attained rec- ognitions, scholarships, and awards in a number far exceeding our expectations. This success more than satisfies our maior obiec- tives for being, but, in addition, in student government effectiveness, campus tradi- tions, club activities, athletic endeavor, and sportsmanship we need take a back seat to no school at any time. This book is dedicated to those who have gone before. They have set the pat- tern for the future. Lakewood High School has come of age with valued traditions, second to none. -Vernon A. Hinze
