Planning for the kind of education which will enable the young people of Lakewood to take their places in a democratic society is the responsibility which the citizens of Lake- wood have delegated to the members of the Board of Education. Not only must plans be made for the actual instruments of training, such as erecting and maintaining buildings and employing the faculty, but the intangible aspects of education such as school policy must be determined. A program of rehabil- itation of the buildings and equipment in the system is being carried on at the pres- ent time. At the high school practice rooms Page 10 for the vocal and instrumental music groups have been remodeled, the chemistry labora- tories, the art rooms, and the office practice rooms have been newly equipped, and the lighting and heating facilities are being im- proved. Plans are being completed for the construction of the gymnasium-auditorium on the high school campus, for which funds were voted by Lakewood citizens two years ago. High school students have been much interested in the decision of the Board of Education to install lights in the stadium, as a result of which night football will be inaugurated at Lakewood High next fall.
