Board ot Education Public education is the cornerstone of our democratic way ol' lite, and in order that I.akewood's young peo- ple may obtain a thorough understanding of their responsibilities as citizens, the supervision of their training has been delegated to an elected Board of Education. Concerned with the welfare of commun- ity and nation, this group of citizens performs many duties such as selecting the faculty, improving the curriculum, providing adequate school buildings, and supervising the maintenance of school property. During the past year student attention was focused with unusual interest on the Board as it deliberated the choice ot' a new superintendent and high school principal. l,akewood's high educational standards are a tribute to the present Board of Education. Assistant Superintendent S. S. Dickey Making the budget, purchasing education- al materials and supplies, and supervising the maintenance and clerical personnel ot' the schools are some of the tasks of As- sistant Superintendent Samuel S.
