To understand the com- plexities of diplomatic and military ac- tion that are now playing the theater of the world it is necessary to have a knowledge of the action of the past. The History Department, in covering the story of the world's events from the be- ginning of time, shows the relationship of the past to the present, and forms a reliable groundwork for predictions as to the future. ry+Mr. Cantrell, Miss Moke, Mr. Hotz, Mr. Jessup, Miss SL Mr. Ross, Miss Warner, Miss Emery. MATHEMATICS 0From the crude tracings of the ancient Egyptians to the complicated equations of today, mathematics has played an important part in the life of man. The ancients, desires to devise a system whereby they could determine the boundaries of fields eventually led to our present knowledge of geometrical laws and truths. All the divisions of mathematics have grown in complexity and usefulness with man's continual scientific advance- ments. It is one of the fundamental objec- tives of our mathematics department to teach its students to think out problems for themselves, to make their own deci- sions. In more realitsic terms mathe- matics offers to those students who aspire to be engineers and technicians a basic training with which they fulfill their ambitions. Geometry, algebra, trig- onometry-tools with which the build- ers of tomorrow will construct the dreams of today.
