Skyscrapers and bridges, automo- biles and airplanes have to be construct- ed so as to stand stress and strain. All of these things involve quantitative judgment. Arithmetic, algebra, geome- try, trigonometry and higher mathe- matics offer the student the mental training and the necessary tools for solving problems involving quantity. As life becomes increasingly complex, and the machine age places more intricate and expensive implements at the service of man, the greater his need for accu- rate judging and mathematical compu- tations.
