Our class role had slipped to 58 in these two years. At the beginning of our senior year we vowed to get busy and get all of our heavy work done before the last few months of school as it is usually done. Lewis Hartford, Dean Frick, and Bertha Marek, kept their offices. Norma Rader was given the rank of treasurer. Mr. Rarick was selected to overcome our headaches and help us over the rough spots. Our motto for the year, HONOR AND COURAGE , will be of much help to us in our life work. Our class flower is the red rose, and our class colors are blue and white. His quest first took him to Wyoming. About fifteen miles from Cheyenne, at Fort Decatur, Ruth Zeiger and Bernadean Watkins were stationed as nurses. They told him one of the lieutenants in the camp was Dale God- shalk, and that he was looking forward to becoming a general in a few years. Dr. Rarick walked into Dale office and talked with the chaplain, Jack Shirley, and a volunteer, Leighton Baggs. Maybe Dr. Rarlck was exceeding the speed limit a little near Lincoln, Nebraska, for he soon heard a screaming siren and Grant Herbster, state patrolman, pulled up beside him. To give his ex-principal a ticket was a big temptation, but uDocu invited Dr. Rarick home with him instead. To his happy surprise, he was welcomed by Margie Stanley Hcrbster, and in the nursery he made friends with five of the sweetest children ho had ever seen. Next morning, Dr, Rarick was informed that most of the '42 graduates were scat tered throughout Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana. A farm in northern Illinois proved to be a good spot to stop for a drink, for Donald Sherman was work- ing in the yard, and who rushed out from the house to welcome him but the former Ruth Anne Shafer. Doris Bunch, on a vacation from the city, told him that Max ine Annls and Virginia Eversole were working in the main office of a big department store in Chicago-- Huff and Huff, Inc. ' Chicago must have proved a large attraction for our classmates. The first night Dr. Rarick was there he went to a theater with the name 'Lorraine 0'Meara' in lights on the marquee, and after gazing through grease- . paint and wigs, he recognized in the supporting east Billie Armstrong, Roland Garrett, and Dick Miller. They told him to watch the Chicago Tribune for sports reviews by Dean Frick and Glenn Thacker. After a late supper with the cast, Dr. Rarink went to the Nolen Hotel for the night. Next morning when he went to the airport, he found James Mack at the controls of his plane and Faye Plummer working as the plane's steward- ess. They told him that Lewis Hartford was the presl- dent of the corporation. L f Aff-fi,if9f,79yyZ T --:nf Arriving in Detroit, Dr. Rariek registered at a hotel. Taking a glance at the names of those who registered before him, he saw Bertha Marek's name. In a few seconds he was listening to the interesting story of Bertha's career. She had just arrived from Washington D. C., where she had been a secretary for the Speaker of the House. She said Mary Fox was work- ing in Washington in a Government office. After reading an article in the Daily News, writ- ten by Marjorie Richard, Dr. Rarick looked for cnterq tainment for that evening. He saw an ad stating that an organ recital would be given that evening by Naomi Whitacre in St. Paul's Cathedral. A few days later, Dr. Rariek arrived in Lakeville, a town which new had a population of 1700. He stopped at WGarretts Grocery Storen and found Joe in the grocery business. He said Marguerite Vnnwynsberghe was teaching home economics at Lakeville High School. While he visited Lakeville, Dr. Rariek visited the home of Naomi Warren, new Mrs. James Ford. He was given a cordial welcome and was later lost in the midst of jabbering coming from their small family. The Fords, being the proud parents of triplets, in- troduced Dr. Rarick to Jean, Jane and John. Being informed that Norman Krathwohl was mayor of Akron, Ohio, Dr. Rarick started east. He met Lorrayne Lindley, Norman's private secretary, and learned that Norma Rader was Dean of a G1rl's School in Akron. Norman said he had appointed Bob McCaus- land as Judge in the city court. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was the next place Dr. Rarick found some of our former classmates. Lelia Plummer and Orville Birk were married for some years new and Orville was an engineer of the Pennsylvania Railroad. Aletha Kirkley was a beauty operator in Pittsburgh. Pauline Mathias was the matron of an orphanage in Bedford, Pa. Fred Hanson was working with an insurance company in the same city. He told Dr. Rarick that Ruth Miller could be found in Boston. Ruth was very glad to see Dr. Rarick again. Well, she had been married for fifteen years now and some little Arts had blessed her home. It was quite a trip for Dr. Rarick to get around and locate each one of the graduates of the class of '42, for they certainly were scattered. However, upon returning home, he was glad that they were all happy and were making a success of their work.
