Can you imagine having eleven bodies in your cellar and another in the window seat? This was the case at the beginning of the play Arsenic and Old Lace which was presented by the senior class on November 23, 1949. Under the capable directorship of Mr. Paul Lefstad, the cast chosen put on a very real and exciting performance. Living in the old Brewster home were the two sweet old ladies and their nephew Teddy, who imagined himself to be Theodore Roosevelt. When Ionathon and his zany friend Doctor Einstein entered the scene, things started pop- ping. Ionathon was as addicted to murdering as were his aunts and used Einstein to a good advantage. Mortimer was afraid that his fiancee, Elaine, would find out about the twelve men that his aunts had murdered so he gave her the brush off. Luckily she never found out. As it should have concluded, Teddy, Jonathon, and their aunts were taken to Happy Dale Sanitarium to live. On March 24, 1950, the popular play, One Foot in Heaven, was presented in the Lake- view High School Auditorium. When Reverend Spence and his family move to Laketon, they find a dilapidated old house for a parsonagep but Mrs. Spence, using some ingenuity, makes the house into a home. Racial prejudice seems to be a large prob- lem in his new church. In fact some of the mem- bers break away because of it. Before Reverend Spence is to preach an im- portant sermon, he falls and sprains his back. Hartzell is elected to preach in his father's place, but he gets himself in jail by throwing a brick at Carver's store window after an argu- ment with his girl-friend, Louise. With the help of Dr. Romer, he gets out of jail and preaches a successful sermon. Those members who broke away return to the church and the play ends in harmony for all. Upon seeking the source you found that this was the Lakeview High School Girls' Glee Club, in which there are sixty members. They might have been rehearsing for one of their many yearly assemblies, the May Festival in Kalamazoo, or the mood-making Pop Concert in which the mixed chorus and band partici- pated, featuring both classical and popular music. As a branch of the glee club the Girls' Octet has been a popular group. At noon the halls were often filled with the melodies of Star- dust, Make Believe, Winter Wonderland, l.et's Take an Old-Fashioned Walk. The Octet has sung for assemblies, exchange assemblies, and has had many outside appearances. Girls' Glee Club-- l6I
