Well for those of you who agree with that description, I’m sorry, times have changed. If we look around there are many examples, here in our own school, of “Modern Women” in the making. What exactly is a “Modern Woman”? In my opinion, she has a lifestyle that fulfills her needs as an individual. If she has a husband it’s be- cause she enjoys him, not because she needs him. A “Modern Woman” is confident, inde- pendent, and choosy, because she wants the most from her life she can possibly get. Billy Joel says it clearly in his song “Modern Woman”: “she’s got style, she’s got her own money, so she’s not another honey you can quickly disarm, she’s got the eyes that make you realize, she won’t be hypnotized by your usual charm”. “Modern Women” aren’t a thing of the future they’re here now and they’re here to stay, by Brian Peasley Heidi Wood and Missy Weikcl. showing the wild side of today's woman. Although 12 and 23 is not an impressive record, there were some giant strides in the right direction. To begin with, the twelve wins this season exceeded the total victories of the past two years. With that alone, it's easy to see that this year’s edition of the ’Cats was a much improved one. MVP Kari Hart led the way again this year with a .376 batting average and with her best defensive performance ever. Co-MVP and captain. Kristine Clark, supplied the attitude and defensive adaptability to give the team leadership. Tammie Briggs, the ‘Cats other captain, also contributed to the campaign witn with a batting average of .311. Wildcat Award Winner, Shclli Mid- dlcbrook chalked up a no-hitter so big things are expected from her next season. Coach Schrciber summed up the seaon this way,“Yes, we could have had a better record, but we were so much better than I’ve ever had here that it would be an injustice to dwell on the negative. The 1987-88 school year began early with Student Government participating with a booth entry in the Lakeview Summcrfest. In July and August the executive team met several times to determine the goals and objectives of the organization. In mid-August the entire Student Gov. emment body met to adopt, amend, or reject the proposed program. The fall program began in earnest with President Behrenwald being named as honorarv member to the Board of Education. At November’s Board of Education meeting. President Behrenwald sought board approval for a school sign to be erected on the high school campus. Behrenwald apprised the board that financing for the marker would come from the student body and area businesses and organizations. The board supported the proposal By late December the project was funded and the order placed for the sign. Among the other accomplishments for 1987-88 were the successful Homecoming and Snowcoming weeks. Student Government also continued its policy of honoring students with G.P.A.’s of 3.0 and better and students with perfect attendance. Student Government also participated in the national student council program called “Register 88”. The goal of the program was to register all eligible students to vote. Mr. Adams, Student Government advisor and deputy township clerk for the eleven townships in the district, registered over 90 juniors and seniors. In April Student Government began its “Hot Topics” program. The seminar attended by about forty students, concerned teen suicide. The seminar was led by a counselor from the Mid-Michigan Student Councils training program in Kalamazoo. The year climaxed with the April election of officers for 1988-89 and the dedication in May of the school sign. A ¥ The school sign being put in. Wayne Brinkcr shooting more pictures for the yearbook. The 1988 Yearbook should've been named “Murphy's Law”, because if something could go wrong; 11 times out of 10 it did. From film being exposed, to running out of film, to the power going off in the middle of a computer entry, to computer disks getting melted; that was what the whole year was like. However! There were some strong points. With Brian Peasley coming to my aid we managed to put together 46 pages in time to meet our first deadline. Unfortunately, that was the only deadline we met. We had a lot of problems with photos; but hopefully the kinks have been ironed out so next year’s staff will be able to function at more of a steady pace. I have to thank everyone who wrote the summaries and got information on the scoreboards. Everyone's contributions made my job much easier. A big thanks goes to Brian Peasley, without his help I would still be working to finish this even as you read it (you see, he and I were the only ones on my “staff' of putting this together). Also Caley Edgerly, Mr. Brinker. Ed Mahan, and Brian Peasley (again) for taking photos. Well, we had quite a few disappointing times, but I think it was also a learning experience for everyone. Hopefully the book turned out “okay , there were a lot of late nights, arguments, and tears put into this; I think it will — maybe even better than okay. Angie Melinowski, Tara Nielsen, Julie Bcckius, Sercva Bowser The key to a winning team is. each individual being able to complete their own job quickly, efficiently, and with success. Also, all the members must be able to pull togchter in a time of crisis to see that the team comes out ahead. This year’s Publications team was def- initely successful. Each person in the class had their own specific job. If one of these people failed it put everyone behind. Anne Duffey was the editor of the Lakevicw Link. Angie Melinowski was the editor of the Wildcat Chronicle. Both of these publications took a lot of work from everyone. Tara Nielsen and Laura Paul were in charge of Special Publications. Sereva Bowser was the editor of the yearbook, seeing that the book came together with everything in the correct place and evrything there that should be. Brian Peaslcy was the co-editor, which meant he was also responsible for learning how to do it all so he would be ready for next year. Craig Jensen was in charge of running the press, that was a full time job. between the Link, the Chronicle, and special things. Ed Mahan was the chief photographer. Wayne Brinkcr was the teacher who was there to answer any questions and to sometimes ask them. In conclusion, the Publications class this year was a team of friends, co- workers. and individuals who knew how to pull together and get the job done.
