Cheering for our league champion football team was the perfect finishing touch for our senior year. Angela Paul, Angela Stout, and Cara Colon, Varsity Tri-Captains Vanity CheeHeodors: Barb Martin, Angie Melinowski, Cara Colon, Angela Stout, Angelo Pod, Kelly Shriver, Tara Nielsen, Anne Duffey, Cooch Gyl Hondorp and Oe Derenski Senior: Angela Pod Senior: De Derenski Senior: Angela Stout Senior: KeRy Shriver The Varsity Football Cheerleaders, coached by Gyl Hondorp, began their season before it ended. During May ond the last port of June, the cheerleoders worked very hord preparing their cheers ond dance routine for camp The Vorsity chose to attend UCA, Universd Cheerleoders Association, becouse they felt this camp emphasized the learning ospect opposed to the competition aspect. They attended UCA at Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, where they did very well The Varsity won several blue ribbons, which meant “Superior”, ond they dso won the ‘‘Spirit Stick', three of the four days of camp They won this award on the final day which meant they were allowed to take it home to their school The Varsity attended one dime at Ferris State College, where they were instructed by the Ferris State Cheerleoders They learned cheers, chants, pom pon, partner stunts, and gym- nastics at this clink. Having such on outstanding season in football, the cheerleaders remoined extremely octive for their football teom at Lokeview. The Vorsity hosted three pep assemblies ond showed their spirit by making posters, signs, locker decorations, and giving the footbal team as much supped as possible. Also, the cheerleaders performed two dance routines throughout the season. They were, “Conga , which received a blue ribbon at comp, ond Great Gosh Almighty”. The Varsity held a Spirit Day for the Trufont and Lokeview eiementory schools The children were al very en- thusiastically dressed in blue ond gold and really en|oyed this exciting day. Senior: Kelli Nisonger LeeAnn Johnson and Kelli Nisonger theer with enthusiasm. The 1986-87 JV Cheerleaders started working way before their season octuall started. They practiced the lost three weeks of school and then attended a UCA comp at Central Michigan University during the last week of June. The squad worked itard and received many ribbons for their efforts. The squad was without a coach for several months but later oquired Mrs. Arvilla Keaton. 'Being league champions was the greatest feeling in the world; it topped off our senior year. Coley Wood, Jason Dey, and Dan Martin, Varsity Tri-Captains Freed Raw: Shod Petersen, Wen Deed, Lonnie Wright, Mike Bochmon, Coley Wood, Mike Moore, Deon Botek, Jerry Riojos, Brock Place, Mgr.; Chad Longe, Mgr.; Eric DensJow, Mgr., Sereed Raw: Chuck Potmore, Bill Brow, Joe Wemette, Jason Dey, Doug West, Mikel Hondorp, Lonnie Smith, John Almy, Justin Dey, Statistician; Shone Wood, Statistician; Back Rear: Dole Miller, Brian Ourga, Ben Wardwell, Pete Cain, Dan Mortin, Bon Denslow, Bad Diamond, Mark Mulholland, Joe Hubbard, Cooch Longe, Hood Cooch Keaton The Lakeview Varsity football team concluded a very much improved season with a record of 6-3. There were many honors received by the players for their fine season. The Wildcats also were honored with the League Championship, which has not been Lakeview’s since 1982. At the Honors Banquet the awards were given and accomplishments recognized. For the seniors: Danny Martin received Most Valuable Player, All-Conference on offense and defense as well as Co-MVP in the league. In the Detroit Free Press, Danny received First Team All-State as well as Special Men- tion All State UPI. Coley Wood received MVP on defense, All-Conference on offense and defense. Mikel Hondorp was chosen as an All-Conference defensive bock. John Almy was chosen as an All-Conference and All-Area center as well as the recipiant of the Guts Aword. Ron Denslow received All-Conference kicker. Jason Dey received 2nd Team All- Conference on offense. Ben Wardwell was chosen 2nd Team All-Conference on offensive end and also for his punting. Lonnie Smith was chosen 2nd Team All-Conference at of- fensive guard. Pete Koin received Honorable Mention All-Conference at defensive end and Lonny Wright attained Honorable Mention All-Conference running bock. Junior Mike Bachman received MVP on offense and Honorable Mention All-Conference at quarterback, by Ben Wardwell 18 Vanity Football Lakeview Opponent Score 15 Greenville 6 0 Balding 43 Montobella ol 21 ccc 0 22 Saranac 13 27 Portland 0 34 Central Montcalm 0 21 Alma 28 17 Tri-County 35 Senior Mikel Hondorp rushes past Balding defenders for extra yardoge. Wildcat defenders read Bering's play and go in for the kill.
