The Carousel Waltz sets the mood for the musical. “Carousel” Billie Bigelow is trying to tell Julie Jourdan how it would be If I Loved You . Carousel was the eighth musical production presented by the students of the Lakeview Music Department on April 28 and 26, 1966. Carousel is the story of a tough carnival barker, Billy Bigelow played by Mike Brockdorf, who falls in love with Julie Jordon played by Joanne Jorgensen, and runs off with her to be married. When they find out that their child is soon to be bom, Billy, in desperation agrees to help in robbery so that he can get some money for the baby. In the act of committing the crime, Billy is killed. Julie is then left to raise her daughter and after 12 years Billy returns to earth for one day to do something for his daughter. When he tries to help her and she rebuffs him he slaps her. But since he loves her so much the slap becomes a token caress of his love. And so in the final scene the tragedy becomes dispelled by love and forgiveness. Carousel was again a most suc¬ cessful production for the music depart¬ ment and was highly praised by all. 23 A
