65 Olympiad Year This is Lakeview, going and coming--This was 1964-65, in coming it brought promises and hope for the future, in leaving, it left memories, friends, and happenings behind. A year of achievement for peoples all over the world, this was a year of expan¬ sion and growth for us too. The world witnessed an International display of its finest scholars and ath¬ letes in the Olympics. This quadrennial contest was founded on the principles of the ancient Greeks: Sound in Mind, Spirit, Body, and Heart. Therefore, these principles, essential to every student body, be¬ came our credo. Goals were reached and dreams were initiated in this--our Olympiad Year. We Are, Sound in Mind. . 5 Sound in Spirit. .23 Sound in Body. .49 Sound in Heart. .61

Mr. O. A. Kirk We have but faith; we cannot know; For knowledge is of things we see; An yet we trust it comes from thee, A beam in darkness; let it grow.—Tennyson On January 15, 1965, all of us in the student body, faculty, and the community felt a deep loss in the death of Mr. O. A. Kirk, former prin¬ cipal and respected leader of Lakeview High School. After teaching for four years and serving as a principal for 17 years, he came to Lakeview in 1946 where he served another 17 years. Besides his duties as principal he was also very active in many civic and educational organizations. But the role he fulfilled the best and enjoyed the most was his job of guiding the students in all fields of school activities. Fortunately for us, he pre¬ ferred teaching in a small school so he could maintain a close contact with the students. There are no words that can accurately describe the greatness, the courage, and the devotion of the truly wonderful man; be¬ cause to all he was an extraordinary person with all the qualities of a great humanitarian. In honor of his memory, the Kirk family has established an award to be given annually to the senior who has best served his community in leadership and dedication. The first recipient of this award was a mem¬ ber of the class of 1965, Louis Lincoln. 4
