The cafeteria is a very important part of the total school program. An average of about 550 students are served daily at Lakeview and another 175 are served daily at Trufant and Coral. The students are charged $1.25 for five meal tickets or thirty cents a meal. The total receipts for the sale of lunches is well over $30,000 per year. Tribute to a Familiar Person This year the La Chatte Staff chose to dedicate the yearbook to Mrs. Gladys Kempton. She has lived in this community for 45 years, taught school at Halls Cor¬ ners for 3 1 2 years, and has worked in our school cafeteria for the past 17 years. In honor of her service and retirement, this year, we dedicate to her this book, filled with the students who have thrived under her warm smile and pleasant personality. Homecoming King and Queen Candidates, KNEELING: Dave Skutt, senior; Mike Stout, junior; Duane LaPar, sophomore; and Jim Main, freshman. STANDING: Diane Skutt, senior; Rachelle Jourdan, junior; Kay Bollinger, sophomore; and Mary Ellen Sirrine, freshman. The Loss That Made Us Roar Reigning co-queens, Judy Behrenwald and La Vera Calhoun. The Burnt colors of fall, bonfire smoke wearing in the air, strains of Onward Lakeview, posters, cam¬ paigns, and—spirit! Lakeview stu¬ dents, as usual, put their all into the first and most nostalgic activity of the year. From the first announce¬ ment of this year ' s candidates through the rousing game with Edmore, the crowning of Diane Skutt and Duane LaPar, as Queen and King, and the dance after the game, the students and alumni gave forth that enthusi¬ asm for which our school is known. What an appropriate beginning for a memorable year! 24
