D IC A T | May this annual be a token of our appreciation for the wonderful start she has given many of us in school. Mrs. Gardner has taught the kindergarten for 40 years at Lakeview plus 3 years else- where. At the present time she is teach- ing some of the children of her former pupils. Our debt is great and very hard to repay but in partial payment for a moral start in life, here is our wee thank you. We are dedicating this annual to Mr. Cook, our understanding coach. He has been teaching students the art of living and get- ting along with others as well as physical well-being for 7 years, 2 previous to a stretch of 4 years in the U. S. Navy and 5 after. Our gratitude is deep and sincere to a person so interested in the welfare of the young people of Lakeview. Joseph R. Cook CLASS of 19S1 Supt. James M. Kos Sec. Shirley Buckley The class of 1951 greatly appreciates the constant support Mr. Kos has given us through our four years at L. H. S. Although being a very busy man, he has found time to Listen and advise us with our seemingly important troubles. Hats off to Mr. Kos. As secretary in the down stairs office Shirley has helped us in a million ways. She has been here since she graduated from IBS in '48. We want to thank Shirley for her fine work. Principal, O.A. Kirk Mr. Kirk, our help- ful principal who advised us during our Junior year. He has been kept busy being the main spring of our highschool. We wish to express our grat- itude toward Mr. Kirk. Office, Donna Lance This is Donna's 1st. jeer as office girl in Mr. Kirk's office. She has kept the upstairs office neat and orderly and has helped the Seniors in many ways. We do hereby appoint SUPERINTENDENT JAMES KOS, as sole executor of this, our last will and testament. Lakeview Bowling Alley Larry and Barbara Bieberie As we look Into' th© futur© to 1961 w© see the Seniors of 51 as follows; Out In th© wooly west, we see Leona Edgar riding one of the biggest, rough- est, toughest bronchos around. Careful, now, Leona, or you won't make it back to your big ranch. Dick Hadder now seems to be a name not only known by students of L.H.S. but by people of the whole world. He is the President of the United States on the Democratic ticket. Yes, Roseoe Ackley is in Washington, too. He is Michigan's Representative to Congress and it seems he is quite set in his opinions, as he was when he was a Senior and voted on the class flower. Let's look into the spot light in New York City. There is Joy Andrews, a famed ballet dancer. Germanyne Nielsen is now one of the New York City's prominent models (doing the job she always wished for.) JoAnn Bale is living in New York, too. You see, her husband is playing pro- fessional basketball at Madison Square Gardens. She is now the Mrs. Joe Tempi formerly of Edmore, Michigan. Kate Smith ha3 resigned from her singing career on radio and television. We see Mary Smith taking her place in hope she will reach Kate's goal. The play pools can Talk is sweeping the country and is now playing in New York City. As the curtain goes up, we see Ellen Diamond playing the leading role. Lewis Kempton seems to be having a pretty steady job in New York also. By the way, he is a street cleaner. I think we are going to have a storm. Yesl I was right. There goes Peggy Branch storming out in the yard and telling that big bully to leave her little Richard alone. It seems that quite a few of the members of our class got married, although Bruce Baird still seems to be playing the part of Romeo. Aren't you ever going to be satisfied with only one girl, Bruce? Barbara Houghton is married to that saxophone player and raising what will some day be known as The Walker Orchestra. Mrs. Don Dickinson, former Eunice Van Guilder, has been working hard at her knitting lately. She knits oink or blue garments. I wonder why? Edna De ?4ond Is now married to Robert Nielsen and raising their own little prize fighters. What'8 this? C.J. Poster finally got up enough nerve to ask a girl to marry him and is now farming near Six Lakes. Altona Jensen has been standing over a hot stove cooking, and watching her four little outlaws shoot their ever loving father. Bob Cross, with a Hopplong Cassidy Gun. Well, Leone Nimberger, so they are featuring your name in the 1961 Ice Skating Pollies at the New York Stadium. We see you finally made it. Dorothy Thompson seems to have settled down, too. She and her husband, uene Wager, are farming near Remus. Josephine Charnley is now a nurse in the Kelsey Hospital. She looks very tired for she has just finished a very serious operation. She helped remove Mr. Kos's tonsils. Jane Coles always did like 4-H work. She is the 4-H leader at Coral, Mich. Lakeview has a new manufacturing plant, owned and operated by Deane Hammel, aanufacturer of Hammel Beer. Cont. Lakeview Hotel Phone 36 Fine Meals Betty Johnson is still waiting for the fleet to coire in. She is going to take her pick. Lucky Girli What kind of a bird is that flying over-head. Why it's a stork who just delivered a 10 lb. 14 oz. bouncing baby boy at the Hutson's which was the former Pat Johnson. Congratulations. The brain of our class has added to the field of Literature, and essay, On Brains . This essayist happens to be Clara Ten Eyck. Now we look into the home of Joyce Dishon s. SayI Hold that temper of yours I Y ou might break that rolling pin. Ten years have passed and Carl Large is still looking for the right girl to say I do . We see that Deane Gage owns his own grocery store. Maybe his experience during his high school days did help him a little. As we look back into 1951 at old Lakeview High, Anna Rassmussen and Louis Morse were an inseparable. Why? Because of a little gold band and the word I do . Who's that cute little blond secretary helping Bob Perks at the Greenville Armory? Why, none other than his little wife, Shirley Sorensen. It looks like La Verna Thatcher did talk Dick Hicks into marriage as they are now happily married with less than one argument a week. It must be Joan Crawford liked school. She is now a school teacher at Lakeview High School tr ying to make the senior boys act their age. The sheriff of the senior play of 1951 sure made a hit with everyone. Now people don't laugh at him when he talks. He is deputy sheriff, Gaylord Edgerly. Our class had everything from housewives to lady wrestlers. As we look at our televisions, we see Marie Williams as the champ of the lady wrestlers. Last but not least, is Jim Imhoff, yes, you guessed it. He is the owner of his fathers John Deere Dealer Shop. Team Captain Bob Hill was the only letterman returning from last years squad. Along with Bob Hill, the starting five consisted of John Noud, Ronnie oastle, l uane Ingraham, and Lowell Lindy. Bob Kruger, who Is a Freshman, started the season on the Kittens team, but through much continued good play he was promoted to the Wildcat's den. Very successful subbing was done by Deane Gage, Bob Kruger, GaylordEdgerley Keith Laper, and Roscoe Ackley. The 1951-52 year is expected to be a huge success with all of the big five returning in full force. Bob Hill was leading scorer in the county through the season of 1959-51. The fighting kittens of this year were set way back by the loss of some of last years regulars to the varsity squad but by the addition of the quick and fast Freshmen and old reliable Soph- omores, they poured on the coal to chalk up a remarkable record of 13 wins and 3 losses. The Kittens (second team) under the excellant coaching of Mr. Charnley will be back next year to put in another thrilling season. Gary Neilsen added much to the success of the Kittens. To aid them in their work an electric mixer, a potato peeler, and new sinks have been installed this year. CHEERLEADERS Thelma Edgar; Bonnie Behrenwald; Bobby Hersey; Arlene Evans; Charlotte Jensen; Juanita Kempton. a , _ As Lakeview's 1950-51 basketball season opened December 1, we were proud of our peppy cheerleaders who were wearing their bright new uniforms of blue and gold • Having to please the public as well as the student body, theirs is a dif- ficult job. However, the satisfaction received is great, when at the close of the season, they hear the words, Well done! We will never forget their leadership in such thrilling yells as Fight locomotive, Grrrr Wildcats, and Calling all cars at our 16 scheduled games. This was J.Kempton and C.Jensen's 3rd year, T.Edgar and A.Evan's 2nd year, and B.Behrenwald and B.Hersey1s 1st year as cheerleaders. Then in 1940 two more buses were added to the fleet and a four Sar®3e was built to service them in. In 1941 two more buses were added, in 1946 and 1947 one bus was added each year. In 1948 and 49 ®nouSh new buses were added to replace most of the original buses and increase the fleet to the present thirteen. The summer of 1948 a new garage with room for 16 buses was built. „ Paul's bus driving .lobs have been varied. He was a regular run bus driver xor nine years and nine months without the aid of a substitute. Through out ths last thirteen years, he has driven to countless numbers of basket-ball games trips, and numerous other extra-curricular activities. Paul arrives at the ’ garage at 6:30 a.m. each morning to ready his charges for their morning run then services them and lines them up for their night run; he then waits for the return of all the buses and his day ends at 5:00 p.m. Many thanks go to Paul for his co-operation with the classes and clubs. mm , Possibly of all persons connected with the school system, the work of our enSin®er and custodian. Cliff Imhoff, are the least noticed.Cliff |i started work at the school on September 1st, 1932. At that time the new part of the building wasn't built nor what is now the shop and cafeteria. Cliff had an office in one end of what is now the chemistry laboratory. He fired the furnaces by hand until 1946 when an automatic stoker was installed. Cliff has survived countless numbers of paperwad wars, water guns and bean shotters besides a few cases of rotten-egg gas, the gas was put in the’ ventilating fan. But aside from all this, still, when something goes wrong, watch to replacing a light bulb in the top of the gym its from repairing a Where's Cliff . To always take time the students Cliff is the genial, goodr.atured fellow who will to helo vou out or tell you where something is, to the student Cliff will go on forever with the memories of L. H.
