i F OOTBALL 1971 Trying is important. Once you begin to try, you begin to live, perhaps for the first time. Ifyou donit try, what do you do? Nothing. And what is an existence if it does nothing? A nonexistence. So you try until your muscles ache and your head hurts and the odds are severely against you. You are a person who has been out there; youive felt the heat, and you walked into it. Sure, you got burned, lots of times, but you didntt run away before you did. Building a good football team is like building a mountain; you must start at the bottom and work up. Itts pain, ifs misery, and sometimes you feel the Hush of shame. But who feels it? The players, the fans, the coaches, the cheerleaders-the beginning of Lakeviewis mountain.
