During the fall, it sponsored the Open House and telephoned all the parents so that they could see the school and meet their children’s teachers. To give them a taste of their chosen careers, FTA arranged for club seniors to do student teaching in the local elementary schools. FTA 17 FHA FHA's calendar was filled with many events this year. To increase the membership, the girls had a Snack Supper for anyone interested in FHA. Af- ter new members joined, the club held Little Sister Week which included a colorful initi- ation. The group organized the FHA Banquet in March and the Mother-Daughter Banquet in May. The girls invited students from the junior high to observe FHA in action. FHA also held monthly meetings with club members and officers. Rusty Snyder and Diane Fitzgerald, participated in the Governor's Hon- ors Program. Along with the usual art projects, students this year studied macrami, pottery, and photography. 21 The Science Club was one of the most active clubs that LFO had this year. The Science Club en- gaged in many activities, includ- ing hiking, horseback riding and picnics. They went cave explor- ing and rapelling, and traveled far from home to visit Fern- back Science Center, Oak Ridge, and Huntsville Space Center. In its spare time the Science Club went skating, washed a lot of cars, and became pretty good at pool hustling. For such a serious- minded, hardworking group, they managed to have many good times together. Science Club Officers: Glen Austin, Vice-President; Kitty Walker, President; Darlene Dobbins, Secretary-Treasurer. 22 FBLA The members of FBLA worked hard this year for other as well as themselves. They had a Hal- loween party for the Vine St. Orphanage, donated Thanksgiving baskets to needy families, and they collected for the March of Dimes, which was the national FBLA project. There was a progressive dinner at Christmas Sharon Thomas, Vice-President; Angela Parker, Treasurer; Rose- mary Gaston, Representative; Markeita Gray, President; Sherry Byrd, Program Chairman; Karin Schroyer, Secretary. and during FBLA week, February 9-15, the girls all attended church together, and Mayor Norris signed a proclamation for FBLA week. In addition to all of this, FBLA took a field trip to Blue Cross- Blue Shiled, and gave apples to all of the teachers during FBLA week. 23 Spirit of ’75 The newspaper staff stayed busy this year putting out thirteen issues of the SPIRIT OF '75. During this time it also managed two skating parties and a bonfire. The staff changed the format of the paper from magazine to news- paper style. At the close of the year at the journalism banquet several awards were given and Joy Sholl was named editor for At work . . . next year. 24 VICA The Vica Club co-sponsor- ed the Weirdo Olympica and di- vided the money as a project to start out its first year. Wade Germany won in the Parade of Weirdos. Richard Rhodes re- ceived the State Architectual Drafting Honor and will leave for Washington D. C. in June. VICA Officers: Debra Horton, Vice-President; Karry Hulgan, Rep- resentative; Debra Harris, Treasurer; Mike Branam, Parliamen- tarian; Ronald Abney, Secretary. 26 Debbie Wilson, President; Kitty Walker, Secretary; Rosemary Gaston, Vice President. Key Club Sweetheart: Lynn Fant Beta Beta Club is an honorary so- ciety that requires a high B aver- age and a faculty recommendation for membership. All members must be at least sophomores. This year the Beta Club had 4 so- cials, an induction and a party for the new members at midse- mester. Key Club: Scott Hammer, President; Mr. Arp, Fred May, Vice President; Eddie Davis, Secretary; Jay Archer, Treasurer. The Key Club's first activity this year was the Halloween Hot- Dog give away with the help of the Kiwanis Club. It participated in the Easter Seals Campaign. In Louisville, Kentucky, it attended the Key Club District Convention. Mr. Arp, the new sponsor, has already made plans for the fu- ture. During the summer they will be attending the International Convention in New Orleans. 27 Library The library's list of activities is a long one. To increase know- ledge, the club toured the Chat- tanooga Public Library and Dalton Junior College Library. At Chris- tmas, the club gave a book to every child at Bonny Oaks School. In addition, the club had a car- wash in October, a Christmas party, and a cookout. The Math Club participated in the Math-Science Fair at school and the Chattanooga Regional Science, placing 1st and 3rd in the Junior Math Division. The year was concluded with the annual Parent-Son Banquet. Awards were presented to stu- dents for outstanding work in different fields and the 1975-76 officers were elected. 29 French The French and Bible clubs share the same sponsor, Mrs. Foote, so they naturally do many activities together. In December, the clubs together had a dinner at the Lake Vista Methodist Church. In April, the two groups had a fifties skating party at Fort Lake. Leo Officers: Perry Jeffers, President; Pat Hill, Secretary; Russell Myers, Treasurer; Tony Baugh, Vice-President. Leo 31 ■ There were many changes at Lakeview High School this year. In the gym a warrior was painted with the slogan Watch It! This is Big Red Country! In the cafeteria an arch with WARRIORS printed on it was put up. In the main hall a two-headed Indian was painted that' showed the floor plan of the school. Hall passes were made out of blocks of wood with the teachers' signatures on them. This cut down on teachers writing passes and the number of students in the hall. With everyone giving some of his talent, the school really seemed a part of the students. All the glamour and tension of a beauty pageant made this year's Homecoming as exciting as a Miss America Contest. As the contestants, Gina Laster, Pam Lamb, Lynn Fant, Mony Smith and Terri Germann, rode onto the field wearing long-flowing dresses, the audience tightened with anticipa- tion. The air of tension held until Miss Chattanooga, Ann Cockrell, announced that Monv Smith was this year’s queen and Ken Sholl was Mr. Warrior. The excitement of the evening continued until the very end as Lakeview tied Hixon, 21-21. 34 35 CO 05 37 39 Miss January Rhonda Morgan Miss February Terri Germann Miss March Debbie Holsonback Miss April Lynn Fant Miss May Karen McDonald Miss June Mony Smith Cheerleaders support LFO activities 46 Tina LaRoche Cindy Johnson Mony Smith Keena Werner; Captain Mi L Kim Garner 49 Debra Smith B-Team Girls Cheer for B-Team Players Who's cute, dimpled, and always on the go? Most anyone will say it's the B-Team cheer- leaders as they move about urging the team to do better. These girls work long hours, begin- ning in the summer and continuing during the year. They clock almost as many hours as the varsity squad at the games. These girls have an extra anxiety, in addition to maintaining a C average. They are too young to drive, so they must depend on someone's good nature to take them to the games. Are there any volun- teers? At Tri-State, the PA system went out in the middle of their performance, but the girls finished the routine perfectly without the music! In March, the girls were guest performers for Christian County High in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. At drill team camp the girls placed first in danc- ing, pom-poms, and marching. Waking in the morning to birds in the trees fish in the water and the sun in the sky. Time was a big hand on six and a little hand on three. We were taught the alphabet, 2+2=4 and the difference between black and white. The world was only a large round map that sat on the front desk. Maru rity growth, change, realization. Maturity brings us here and suddenly a new morning dawns. We discovered birds sometimes nest on the ground fish sometimes fly and the sun is only a big burning star Time became a matter of late or early. The alphabet turned into compositions, 2+2 became advanced algebra and the difference between black and white The world grew from a map of states and continents to a new and exciting place. Age wisdom, strength, independence. Today another morning has broken. Amoming of airplanes, submarines and satellites. Time has become life itself. Our words have turned into political speeches, our math has become our work and black and white has become a racial affair. Together we face a complex and ever changing world. We will learn of mankind and the importance of stepping ahead. The future is everything, the past is behind. We must always change and we must always step a'head. by Pam Lamb 85 Left page: Mr. Houston Black, Principal. Injuries wreck hopes of a better season 104 New head Coach Bobby Thompson produced an aver- age season this year with a 4-5-1 record. Most loses were due to many injuries suf- fered during the year. Alan Marshall broke his collar bone and John Boyd broke his front teeth. F red May dislocated his shoulder. Bobby Thompson had a broken arm and Scott Manley suffered a broken finger. Sev- eral games could have been won if all players could have par- ticipated. 105 Bottom Row: Eddie Davis, David Tolley, Danny Brown, Mike Quarles, Scott Manley, Scott Purcell, Ken Sholl, Alan Marshall, Britt Fant, John Boyd, Fred May, Scott Hammer, Row 2: Clint Harwood, Jeff Clayton, Steve Jackson, Johnny Lanford, Jeff Bailey, Mike Gamble, Mike Bradford, Greg Turner, Sam Burgess, Frank McGill, Top Row: Coach Thompson, Coach Piccola, Coach Hannah, Chip Bilbra, Rusty Snyder, Steve Warren, Greg Smith, Tim Michaels, Bobby Thompson, Joe Coppit, Terry Haney, Jay Archer, Joey Sloan, Terry Songer, Charles Scuggs, Coach Liner, Coach Timmons. 106 107 108 Pictured clockwise are Johnny Lanford, Scott Purcell, Alan Marshall, Ken Sholl, Scott Manley, Fred May. 109 female! •••••••• • • i • •• • •• • •• •• • • • • • • 111 Warriors outscore their opponents by 59 points The boys team slipped a little this year, finishing with a 10-13 overall record. Pat Woolsey, in his first year as head coach, had the unenviable job of rebuilding a team which lost three starting seniors. Five of the this year were de- cided by less than four points. The Warriors showed cham- pionship caliber by beating AAA Rossville three times, once in the finals of our sec- ond annual Christmas tourna- ment. They also beat Chat- tanooga, which went to the state, on its homecourt in our last regular season game. Special recognition should be paid to senior Ricky Partain and junior Rodney Callahan for their se- lection as members of the All- North Georgia basketball team. The girls fin- ished as co-champions of the Region with an impressive 18- 3 overall mark and an 11-1 region mark. In her first full year as head coach, Mrs. Diane Dycus was chosen as Coach of the Year by the Chat- tanooga News-Free Press as a tribute to the team's fine play on the court. Seniors Debbie Holsonback, Pam Lamb, and Debbie Wilson were chosen to be on the All-North Georgia basketball squad. The Warriorettes were undefeated at home and outscored their op- ponents by an impressive 15.2 points per ballgame. The War- riorettes should field a good team next year with the return of rovers Cindy Watkins and Joni Sloan and guard Cindy Nabors. The team won only 6 out of 17 games. Inexperience was the main reason for the team's subpar season. The gym should not be empty over the summer as these boys tune-up for another basketball season. Girls have winning season Girls basketball excited the fans this year as winning be- came a habit through the coach- ing of Mrs. Tony Larkin. The girls worked hard to become good ball players and their effort paid off this year be- cause the B-Team finished with a winning season of 8-6 and outscored their opponents by 65 points. Top Row: Head Coach Tony Larkin, Alicia Counts, Karen Lane, Kim Raper, Monica Lamb, Carla White, Debbie Scott, Donna Wilson, Beth Coalston. Wrestling comes alive The wrestling team came alive this year. Several new players such as Mike Webb, Tim Wilkinson, and Fletcher Hughes were lively additions to the team. Carl Brady, Billy Quin- ton, Nolan Carter, Johnny Hale, and Bruce McBee were all unde- feated in their matches. At the state tournament Bruce McBee placed second, Nolan Carter placed third, and Britt Fant placed fourth. Coach Hill awarded white diaper pins after each match to the players to symbolize the ''pins they had won. As wrestling con- tinues to arouse interest in the students, the moral support will lead to more and more victories. With only five students, LFO’s track team was expected to be mediocre this year. Somebody forgot to tell the track team about it. Alan Marshall won the 100 and 220 yard dash at the regional meet in Dalton and placed fifth in the entire state in the 220 yard dash. Sophomore Bobby Thompson was ineligible due to a residence regulation but during regular season meets he always placed first in shotput and discus competition and either first or second place in the broad jump Track Goes All Out competition. Karen Lane won the 880 yard dash at the regional meet and placed eighth in a field of sixteen at the state competition. Cheryl Knight placed fourth in the 100 yard dash in the region and Terrie Germann placed fifth. With the regular season at an end, Cheryl, Karen, and Alan intend to participate in the sum- mer track program at East Ridge sponsored by the Chattanooga Track Club. 125 We They 93 Dade County 43 58 Rossville 53 52 Soddy Daisy 56 38 Lafayette 53 41 Dalton 61 48 Calhoun 54 73 Chattanooga Valley 43 75 North Whitfield 58 49 McCallie 51 51 Dial ton 68 49 Chattooga 61 76 Rossville 75 55 Chattanooga Valley 44 57 Dade County 49 54 Ringgold 65 70 Calhoun 74 60 Lafayette 63 41 Chattooga 23 We They 0 Chattooga 28 40 Chattanooga Valley 18 0 Rossville 14 29 Kirkman 0 21 Hixson 21 6 Ringgold 13 13 Lafayette 6 21 Calhoun 6 We They 8 Hixson 9 1 North Whitfield 3 2 Calhoun 6 21 Lafayette 4 1 Dalton 2 10 Chattooga 3 7 North Whitfield 10 13 Ringgold 2 2 Red Bank 3 2 Chattooga 3 0 McCallie 2 5 Chattooga 2 5 Calhoun 0 11 Lafayette 2 15 North Whitfield 6 5 Ringgold 10 0 Rossville 1 8 Lafayette 6 9 McCallie 6 5 Dalton 2 126 We They 42 Lafayette 12 48 Bradley County 9 31 Brainerd 33 48 Rossville 12 23 Ringgold 38 35 Riverside 15 37 Calhoun 27 48 City 15 31 Rossville 15 54 Lafayette 15 31 Ringgold 24 We They 50 Dade County 31 48 Lafayette 20 52 Dalton 39 52 Calhoun 32 46 Chattanooga Valley 34 43 North Whitfield 24 49 Ringgold 34 45 North Whitfield 37 55 Chattooga 28 56 Chattanooga Valley 16 32 Dade County 26 44 Ringgold 38 41 Calhoun 21 54 Lafayette 26 Scores Scores Scores Scores Scores Scores 127 Our senior year was a mixture of hard work and play. The Class of’76 Most junior classes are hard working and fun loving, and the class of '76 is no exception. They began the year by selling red and white shakers at the football games. In April they sponsored a successful Junior - Senior prom at the River's Edge. They also planned several field trips. If this is any indication of the future, next year should be a very good year for the Spirit of '76 . Elected to lead the junior class were Cindy Watkins, Trea- surer; Rusty Turner, President; Pam Cavendar, Vice-Presi- dent; and Candy Brown, Secretary. Judging from their first impressions, Lakeview is an interesting place to be, filled with impressions of happy, sad, exciting, and depressed mo- ments. The class planned a trip to Six Flags and many other things also. Now the freshmen are looking forward to three more years even better than the first, but they will always remember their first impressions. The staff has made several changes in the format of the an- nual, The aim has been to have more coverage of students, and not just the students who are in everything. The staff has tried to make the total look of the an- nual different. Our cover was designed by Barry Brown. This is the first time in many years that traditional colors have not been used. Special thanks go to Tom Young of the American Yearbook Company and Ted Dickerson, Olan Mills photog- rapher.
