It is with sincere humility and appreciation that we dedi- cate this, our 1961 Warrior, to MISS GERTRUDE HEARN. 4 Another day has dawned, another long, full day, But ere I go to teach, O God, to Thee I pray. I thank Thee for the will, the power the blessed right To lead immortal souls in ways of truth and light. And yet I feel how small, how futile all my power Unless Thou grant Thy help and grace to me each hour. Let me not dim for on he brightness of this day. Teach me, that I may teach; and by Thy grace 1 pray Grant me Thy wondrous love, that I may touch their souls, And turn their eager hearts to high and noble goals. Give me, for I am frail. Thy patience so divine, That I may deal with them in tenderness like Thine. Let me be kind to them - the dull who often call, The trying restless ones, the weakest, poorest, all. Oh, let me not forget that for each little one. The Saviour ever pleads before Thy holy throne. Grant me Thy strength. Thy love. Thy wisdom, deep and free. So shall the day be bright and blest for them and me. Anna Meyers - -1 MRS. DaVAULT Secretary MR. C. B. DaVAULT Principal MR. W. D. BOREN Junior High Principal MRS. W. F. Today we stand with future unknown But, yet, we know that we do belong To all the yesterdays and all the tomorrows Which shall be filled with joys and sorrows. Tomorrow is ahead, our rebirth has begun, In success or failure looms behind the sun Of all the tomorrows and faith in mankind Which shall create and mold our future to find. PAUL JACKSON Senior GLENN RICKETTS Senior JERRY LINDERMAN 11q Senior LAKEV1EW WALLOPS ST. ANDREWS With halfback Glenn Ricketts scoring two touchdowns to lead the way, the slow-starting Lakeview Warriors rolled to a 32-0 victory over St. Andrews Friday night on the Warrior’s field. Twenty-five of the Lakeview points came in the second half. Rickett’s first touchdown came in a one-yard plunge after his 50- yard punt return had set up the opportunity. The other came on a 15-yard toss from Wayne Erwin who also plays quarterback. Other Lakeview markers came on a 10-yard end sweep by James Evans and a 1-yard smack by Mark Walden, a newcomer to the team. Jerry Daniels ran their season rec- ord to 5-4. The Saints suffered their fifth setback against four victories be- fore some 2,000 fans, who sat in perfect football weather to watch the game. Now, there is but one game left which will be with Tyner. DAVID JACKSON Senior JAMES EVANS Senior DARYL HOLLIS Senior LAKEVIEW ROCKS RINGGOLD BY 20-0 Ricketts Scores 2 Glenn Ricketts scored twice on long runs Friday night to lead Lake- view over Ringgold in a nonregion - al football game. The score was 20-0 as Ronnie Brown contributed a third Warrior touchdown in the second straight victory. Perry Jackson's two placements completed Lakeview's scoring be- fore some 3,000 fans. The first score came late in the first when Brown capped a 40-yard drive by going nine over tackle. Then in the third Ricketts' plunges dominated and he scored once on a 40-yard march and again on a 60- yard drive. Ringgold did not seriously threaten and the Tigers dropped their second in a row. Coach Pruett's victors led in first downs 7-3, rushing 158 yards to minus 13, and in passing 104 yards to 26. PERRY JACKSON Senior ROGER McKINNEY Junior WAYNE ERVIN Junior JIMMY BETTIS Junior WARRIORS SUFFER DEFEAT Dade County broke Lakeview’s record when they defeated us by the score of 14-0, Lakeview had two straight wins over Chattanooga Valley and Ringgold with the opponents having no scores. In the first quarter with the Wildcats, an exciting play was made by Ricketts when he inter- cepted a pass and was running hard for a touchdown but was forced out of bounds. At the end of the second quarter the Wildcats were five or ten yards from the Lakeview goal when they plunged for the touchdown, leaving the score 7-0. The extra point was made by kicking. At the third quarter Ricketts received a hand-off and was going all the way for a touchdown when one of the Wildcats charged in and tackled him, after a 50-55 yard run. In the fourth quarter the Wild- cats made their second and final touchdown which left the score 14-0. TOM JARNIGAN Junior JIMMY BERNARD Junior JERRY CLARK Junior TRION DOWNS LAKE VIEW 20-7 TRION, Ga. - Trion’s Bulldogs, led by talented Tracy Campbell and R. Houston, blasted Lake- view's Warriors 20-7 here Friday night before a chilled 3,000 fans. Trion notched the Georgia Region 3A North victory with touch- downs in every quarter but the third. The first came on a 2-yard plunge by Campbell. Houston plunged for the extra point. But the initial period ended in a deadlock as Jerry Daniels ended a Lakeview scoring thrust with a 1- yard plunge into paydirt. James Evans plunged for the point after. Campbell counted again in the second on another 2 yarded, but the point was missed and Trion enjoyed a 13-7 halftime lead. After a scoreless third act Houston scampered off tackle for seven yards and Campbell plunged the extra point to end the scoring. Ricketts broke loose and returned a punt 70 yards, then dashed 29 yards around end for touchdowns. It was the fifth victory against three losses for coach Charles Pruett's charges. It ended a two- game losing streak. The Warriors opened with a 13- point performance in the first quarter and held that margin at halftime. Then the Warriors ex- ploded for 20 points in the second half. The game was marred by an injury to Lakeview's guard Perry Jackson. He suffered a broken leg on the final play of the game. WARRIORS FIGHT HARD FOR VICTORY Peter Dunson proved to be the end of Lakeview's regional hopes as Summerville downed Lake- view 7-6 in a hard fought game Oct. 7, at Summerville. The large crowd that turned out for Summerville’s homecoming was not disappointed as they saw a game that could have gone either way tight up to the final gun. Lakeview's score was due to a Summerville fumble which Charles Wiggins picked up and ran 65 yards for the TD. The extra point was no good, and this proved to be the dividing factor of the game. Summerville came out after the half and was set to be denied their score as they marched from their 35-yard line to the TD in 4 plays. Neither team could score again. WAYNE AL VERSON Senior TYNER WINS OVER LAKE VIEW 19-0 Jerry Cotter scored one touch- down and David Brown scored two touchdowns as the Tyner Hill- toppers won over the Lakeview Warriors. The score was 19-0. Outstanding offensive players were Glenn Ricketts and Wayne Ervin. On the defensive team for the Warriors Paul Jackson and Tom Jarnigan were outstanding for their efforts to hold back- the Hilltoppers. The Tyner team possessed much more weightier boys than the Lake- view team. This was one of the deciding factors of the game. Glenn Ricketts gained the most yardage for the Warriors. Wayne Ervin completed ten passes out of ten. LAKEVIEW WINS 27-0 OVER CHATTANOOGA VALLEY The Lakeview Warriors started the season off with a bang in first game by winning over Chattanooga Valley by a score of 27-0. The first exciting play was made by Glenn Ricketts went he intercepted the ball on the second play of the first quarter. The first score was made in the second quarter when Jerry Linderman plunged 2 yards for a touchdown, shortly aftet that he ran 65 yards with a punt for another score to make it 13-0 at the halftime. In the third quarter there were no scores but in the fourth quarter the Warriors started up again tail- ing on a 50-yard pass interception by James Evans, and a 40-yard end run by Glenn Ricketts. Perry Jackson kicked 3 tremendous extra points for the warriors. POINT VICTORY Glenn Ricketts and James Evans sparked Lakeview to a 33-0 triumph over Valley Point before an estimated 2,500 fans on the Lakeview field. The Warriors piling up 261 years rushing, were never threatened by the green wave from Valley Point as the War- riors failed to score only in the second quarter. Valley Point’s Greenwave made its deepest penetration to within 11 yards of Lakeview's goal, but failed to score as its of- fensive sputtered. James Evans turned in the finest scoring run of the eve- ning as he sped 38 yards short- ly after the opening minutes of the second half. Jerry Linderman dashed three yards to climax a 62-yard drive early in the fourth period. Evans' 41-yard run set up the score. Wayne Erwin, 135- pound quarterback, then took over Warrior operations and directed a 45-yard march. The Lakeview line, headed by Tommy Berkemiere and David Jackson, was outstand- ing for the hosts. It was the first time Lake- view had played Valley Point as they just this year moved up into our region. Friday, October 14, was a big night for the students here at Lakeview. The Lakeview Warriors met with the Ooltewah Owls before some 2, 500 homecoming fans. During the first quarter, Oolte- wah's fullback, Jimmy Hixson, scored on a one yard touch- down run. Shortly after Hix- son gained his extra point. So, at halftime Ooltewah led with a score of 7-0. In the third quarter Oolte- wah's Kenneth Brogan scored from the four yard line with Hixson making the extra point. Buck Ervin scored in the third quarter, also when he tallied from the one yard line for Lakeview. The extra point was no good. Glenn Ricketts led the War- riors in the fourth quarter when he scored from four yards out. Lakeview again lost their point, making victory for the Owls over the Warriors with a score of 14-12. However, let me congratulate you on having com- pleted a very important phase of your life. Graduation from high school has come to be a very essential thing in our American society of today. Not all your classmates stayed with the task. You are to be commended for a job well done. Now as you go into other endeavors - Into die field of work, to college perhaps, or into military service, we at Lakeview High School sincerely hope you carry the higher ideals of life with you. While we may have taught you many important facts, our job is only partially done if we have not influenced you to aspire toward a more noble life. We trust that you will not let us down. Although you were born into a troubled time, remember that you still live in a great free land which has afforded you opportunities such as no other nation on earth could come close to providing. In the days ahead your country may greatly need your talents and services in many ways. As one imminent Amer- ican of our times has said, Don't ask what can your country do for you,but rather what can you do for your country. You will find there is no more rewarding life than one of unselfish service to your fellowman, your country, and to God. May God's richest blessings go with you always. Sincerely, Maurice L. MY TASK And then my Savior by and by to meet, When faith hath made her task on earth complete, And lay my homage at the Master's feet. Within the jasper walls, Within the jasper walls, This crowns my task. To love some one more dearly every day, To help a wandering child to find his way, To ponder o'er a noble thought, and pray, And smile when evening falls, And smile when eveing falls, This is my task. To follow truth as blind men long for light, To do my best from dawn of day till night To keep my heart fit for His holy sight, And answer when He calls, And answer when He calls, This is my task. As we pass slowly out of these doors that have seen so many come and go, all too quickly we hear the doors of the years past, quietly shutting behind us; and we go forth eagerly to open the doors to the future and whatever it may bring. For when one door is shut - another opens. 180 % 50KS TAYLOR PUBLISHING COMPANY The World's Best Yearbooks Are Taylor-made”
