THE HISTORY (IF OUR HIM MATER” The first land was given for Lakeview School in 1915, with Mrs. Mary E Cheek and the Chatta- nooga Land Company each giving an acre. The classes, totaling about 50 pupils, met under a brush arbor that first term, until the two-room brick building could be completed. The section of the elementary building which was later to serve the high school was erected in 1925. In 1938- 39 the original building was torn down to make room for the other section of the elementary building and the gymnatorium Classes were held in the basement of the First Baptist Church while this phase of construction was under way. The first year of high school was established in 1931-'32, and another was added each term until the first class, consisting of 8 members, graduated from high school in 1935. (The class of '33 had been privileged to graduate from junior high school.) Both our Alma Mater and our school colors were adopted in 1933. The Commercial Department was added in 1940. and has progressed to the extent that there are now 24 typewriters in use 5 periods each day. In 1948 the P T A hired Mr Luther S. Jones as a director, and sponsored the organization of a band. The first basketball teams played on outdoor courts in 1931-’32, but Mrs. Mmette Dixon allowed the use of her indoor courts the two following terms She also furnished a football field for our first team in 1932-33, and for two terms thereafter. We availed ourselves of the latter privilege again in 1948-'49and in I949-'5G, but completed our own modern field in time for the '51 season Our new high school was completed in time for the 1951-'52 term, making a school plant of 38 classrooms, with a faculty numbering 40, and a campus of more than 25 acres. We look back with pride at seeing what has been accomplished during such a comparatively short time, and we pay tribute to the following, who so capably served as principals of our beloved Alma Mater during the designated terms: Miss Nell Chambers....................1915-’17 Miss Odell Smith......................1917-'18 Miss Pearl Bowman.....................1918-'20 Mr Belton Williams....................1920 Mr Claude Shetter.....................1921 Mr H E Dailey........................1921-'25 Mr J F Alverson........................1925-36 Rev C. W Howard........................1926-38 Mr. R E. Babb.........................1928-'29 Rev. C. W. Howard......................1929-32 Mr. W. A Dubberly, Jr...............1932- 36 Mr. Max Forrester.....................1937-39 Mr E. G Williams......................)939-'44 Mr C. W. Bowman.......................1944-’46 Mr John b. Burks......................1946-'48 Mr C. Fred Williams...................1948-
