Cn the Border ot Lolseview As the holls of Lokeview ropidly grew silent, dedicoted students worked long, hord hours into the night to tronsform Lokeview Centenniol into o town On the Border. The entronce from the stu- dent porking lot hod the white line of the TexjMex boundory ond, of course, o border potrol office. The freshmen ond sophomores decoroted A- ond B-Holls with streomers, bolloons, flogs, ond even o bridge over the Rio Grande. The juniors metomorphosed the moin hollwoy into o TexfMex Bonko's Morlset, but the seniors, os usuol, won the decoroting contest by filling the Commons Areo with o horse Cstuffed, from Shepler'sD, on oil derricls ond o minioture version of the Alomo. Next in the line of Homecoming festivities wos the pep rolly, feoturing o mini-floot porode. Besides the regulor pep rolly ottenders, the seniors of '85 returned ond did their port to fill the boys' gym with Potriot Pride. As the cheerleoders, Liberty Dolls, Sweetheorts, ond bond performed, oll the students joined in to cheer on the Potriots ogoinst the South Gorlond Colonels. A special day for special kids Imagine yourself down in starting blocks with five other athletes. The gun goes off and you go as fast as you can toward the finish line where loving arms embrace you not because you won but because you had the courage to try. This is what it is like for a Special Olympics athlete. The athletes do not always have skill or knowledge of their sport, but they do have enthusiasm, courage and pride, The day the Patriot Special Olympics Team spent at the city-wide event this year was a day full of triumph and laughter, even in the face of defeat, These students are not just winners, they have pride pride in themselves and pride in Lakeview. Adam Guzman participated in the long jump and in track events. He received several ribbons for his efforts, TOCES. The Special Olympics team members have a wonderful attitude to their school and themselves. Thyey are lov- ing, caring people who enjoy life, no matter what curves it throws them, Adam Guzman smiles with the pride of a real winner t Miles Kilway ran several races along Q with participating in the long jump and 9 the softball toss James Mills did well in the softball toss, l-le also ran in several track events.
