Ooh! You think you re bad! ERESHMAN CHEERLEADERS The 1984-85 Lakeview Centennial Freshman Cheerleaders have really shown their outstanding spirit. This summer they at- tended the NTSUXNCA Cheerleading Camp in Den- ton, Texas, luly 11-14. Both squads lblue and goldl came out on top. Between them they were awarded seven Superior ribbons and one excellent ribbon. Performing as one combined squad they were nominated for the Award of Excellence' and were chosen as one of five finalists for the honor, They were also given a rib- bon for being a Super Star Squad and awarded with a NCA spirit stick because of their outstanding spirit and exemplary behavior. Nominated for All- American Cheerleader falong with four other girls from a camp of 5001 were Robin Shaddix and lennifer McCarley, lennifer was awarded All-American Cheerleader, the highest award given to an individual. She competed with both junior Varsity and Varsity cheerleaders from all over Texas and other states. len- nifer represented Lakeview in an outstanding manner and should be commended for her excellence in all areas. During football season the cheerleaders cheer in pep rallies football games and basketball games well as decorating lockers for the football players. These young ladies dedicated and hard- working brought out the Patriot Pride in not only the freshman class but the whole school. ...F Ooh! IUNIOR VARSITY CHEERLEADERS The' lunior Varsity Cheerleaders, sponsored by Gladys Pickey, promote school spirit, boost morale, help organize pep rallies, hang signs in the halls before games and cheer for foot- ball and basketball games. This summer the lunior Var- sity Cheerleaders went to a cheerleading camp held at the University of Houston. There they Worked hard and were nominated for All-American Cheerleader and came back recipient of the title. The cheerleaders also held a lakeyiew Centen- nial High School Cheerlead- ing clinic in August fo elementary and middle school girls interested in cheerleading. CLOSE-UP For a full week during the school year, students and teachers from Lakeview traveled to Washington DC, for a firsthand study of their government. This trip was known as part of the nation-wide CLOSE-UP pro- gram. During this CLOSE-UP week students participated in twelve to fifteen seminars each featuring a different speaker. Small groups met in workshops to discuss issues and the day's events. A tour introduced the participants to Washington. They went to Capitol Hill and met with members of Congress. To take a breather, students went to plays and shows, and concluded the week with a banquet. The CLOSE-UP program was to give experience and insights to students about their government. The streets of Washington became familiar to Lakeview students gzwstfff.
