l.V. Football '8 The Lakeview l.V. football team, under the coaching of Eddie Henderson, Mark Lipscomb, and lack Catlett, finished the season with a 7-3 record. One of their first games of the season showed that the Patriots would not take defeat. Although not considered a district game, Lakeview stomped over the Newman Smith Trojans 35-00. Wes Rowden had four touchdowns and Billy Cianie added one more to that. Highland Park was next on Lakeviews list and not even the wet conditions could keep the Patriots from a win of 15-6. Rowden had 25 carries for 103 yards. Ron Hoover scored the Patriots first touchdown while Scoyt DeWees finished with yards on 5 carries and advanced the ball 18 yards on Hoover's touchdown play. Lakeview slid by the Mesquite Skeeters by a score of 21-17 as Rowden scored the opening touchdown of the game. He ended the game with 196 yards. Darrin Sharp, quarter- back, scored the second touchdown and finished the game with more than 300 yards passing. Rowden once again led the Patriots to another big victory over the Garland Owls, 21-6. Rowden had 80 yards on ten carries, and scored two touchdowns within minutes of each other. leff Gorden added the Patriots final touchdown and carried 15 times for 70 yards. L.C. earned a tough victory from district rivals North Mesquite with a 23-6 score. Gorden had a 30 yard touchdown and Lance Brownlee added the extra point. Brownlee had an ex- cellent game as he kicked a 41 yard field goal just before the end of the half. The last and biggest game of the season was the Patriots win over South Garland 27-7. The Patriots had several outstanding defensive plays and touchdowns were made by leff Gorden, with an 80 yard dash, Wes Rowden, and a pass play from quarter- back Shawn Kohler to Nick Eaton. Field goals by Lance Brownlee completed the Patriots points.
