Lakeview opened the new year against tl Hillcrest Panthers, owners of a 22-0 recor After falling behind 31-14 at the half, the Pa played evenly with the undefeated Panther Hillcrest won by thirteen, 66-53. The final tuneup before district play, wa against Berkner on January 9th, The Ran came away with a 50-40 victory as the Pa were outscored 27-ll, in the final period. The Patriots carried a 7 win and 10 lo: record into district play. Our crosstown rival, South Garland Coll nels, played tough defense and hit open sho on offense to soundly defeat the Patriots in tl district opener 59-28. The district champion Wilmer-Hutchii Eagles came to the Lakeview gym on Janua 16. The Eagles turned a close game into a 6- 42 victory. Mike Wiebcld, Fton Ftollinson, and Jeff CL breth scored 15, 14, and 13 points respective to lead the Pats to a 55-39 victory in their ne encounter. In one of the more exciting games of the se. son, the Patriots defeated the Highland Pai Scots 49-48 behind Culbreth's 14 points. The North Mesquite Stallions defeated tl Patriots 50-41 on January 27th at North Me quite. 1 In a low scoring overtime game the Patrio defeated the Mesquite Skeeters, 33-30, rl a balanced scoring attack and tough 1' ' z, The North Garland Raiders handed l Patriots a 46-43 loss in the final game of district's first half. The big victory of the season took against South Garland on February 6. Wiebold scored 14 points and Jeff added 12 to the lead.
