Frosh cheerleaders learn quickly Twelve girls were chosen fresh out of middle school as Lakeview's freshman cheerleaders for the 1980- 81 year. Many of them had never cheered before, so not long after school was out they were meeting with their sponsor, Julie Driscoll, and l gaussian On your mark, get set, GO! practicing long, hard hours. They attended camp with the Var- sity and Junior Varsity cheerleaders at the University of Oklahoma early in July and helped host the Garland Middle School clinic, here at Lakeview later that month. When football season began they led the freshman class in their class chants at the pep rallies each Friday and decorated the dressing room each week. Following tradition, during this last week, they held the annual freshman pep rally, which was the most suc- cessful yet. Members find fun in problem solving There is a breed of student at Lakeview that can only find con- tentment through true baffle- ment. The breed are those honor math students who belong to Mu Alpha Theta, a national Math fraternity. For recreation and relaxation these computer minds devise and work hard on impossible math problems. Mu Alpha Theta members, under the leadership of sponsor Dr. Vis Mudely, have been busy participating in honorary math tests. Several geniuses qualified for the Atlantic-Pacific Math tests which were given several times during the year. Requirements for member- ship in Mu Alpha Theta are sim- ple, if you are a budding genius. You must earn and maintain an A average in any math class. Bryan Dickerson.
