Sweethearts on the road The Yankee Doodle Sweethearts have been on the road all year, sweeping the country with spec- tacular performances. They have performed everywhere from Dallas to their spring visit to the nation's capitol, Washington, D.C. The first stop the Sweethearts made was at the American Drill Team camp at SMU. Sweethearts efforts were rewarded with trophies and numerous first, second and third place ribbons. As the road grew longer and wider so did the intensity and determina- tion of the Sweethearts. They were invited to perform at a Dallas Tor- nado halftime, then they participated in the KNUS-SMU Drill Team com- petition at Texas Stadium. Though hampered by unfavorable weather conditions, the Sweethearts were able to bring home a third place trophy. During February the Sweethearts produced a stage show, On the Road Again. The production had a country western flavor and proceeds went towards the final stop of the Sweethearts 1980-81 journey, Washington, D.C. Organizations The Sweethearts were the only Garland Drill team ever to journey out of state. Their destination in Washington was the Cherry Blossom Festival where they performed on the steps of the capitol for President and Mrs. Reagan. The journeys of the Sweethearts have been both rewarding and ex- citing. But under the able leadership of sponsor Joyce Pennington each of the Sweethearts has learned something about their country and themselves. ,. has 1 k .. - i .
