'tale N . - . f-.,,mN , .T Q . ii' V - 4 . Although the band adds a lot of color to the halftime shows at foot- ball games, that is not the only thing they do. During concert season the marching unit is divided into three bands, the honor band, symphonic, and concert band. They attended concert contest March 11-12 here at Lakeview expecting another Sweepstakes trophy. Sweepstakes are awarded to a band receiving a first division in marching, concert, x S tx .f V' ,L and sight reading. The Patriot Band acted as GarIand's Ambassador to Florida during their trip to Daytona Beach. They competed in the Daytona Beach Music Festival and marched in the Character Parade at Disney WorId's Magic Kingdom during the time they spent there. This year was a year of changes on the marching field. With a new direc- tor, F. J. Shaack, the band took on a new style. They went from strictly show band to corps style, show, and added dance steps to A Chorus Line. The 173-member band marched in two parades and competed in several contests. They received se- ond place at the SMU Band Day, fourth place at the Parade of Cham- pions in the Cotton Bowl, and for the fourth straight year were awarded a first division at the UIL marching contest.
