l I , 1 . , 3? mac. K K NHS members worked long hours in the concession stand. Mrs. Greebon discusses the latest NHS project with Susan Cox. NHS recognizes grades, citizenship There are many different extra-cur- ricular activities that all high school students, and especially seniors, love to participate in. With all the fun activity it is sometimes hard to main- tain good grades. Lakeview's National Honor Society is especially designed for the student who is capa- ble not only of participating in the fun, but who can also maintain an 11.5 grade average. This year, the National Honor Soci- ety has been hard at work. They have been operating the concession stand at basketball games, plus they have sold goodies at various times of the year. During VaIentine's Day, NHS sold Valentine cookies and delivered flowers. At the end of each year, NHS, under the leadership of sponsor Sheila Greebon, awards a scholar- ship to it's most outstanding mem- ber. In order to be inducted into NHS, students must maintain a grade point average of 11.5 and must be good citizens. 134 ORGANIZATIONS l 2 'A ty' 'S f 1 'st 1 N Dee is ready for the crowd. Speakers active in competition The ability to speak effectively is a highly valued trait. High school is a good training ground for speaking skills. The Speech and Debate Club is ac- tive in many areas of competition. At each contest, Lakeview is represented in duet acting, storytell- ing, prose, group improvisation, and debate. The speech team has par- ticipated in tournaments at Skyline and Optimist Club contests in the Spring. Participants in the Optmist Club contests were expected to pre- sent a seven minute speech on a chosen topic. Rules for the Rotary Club contest were along the same lines as those for the Optimist. Last year two members of the Speech Club who participated in these contests advanced as far as the state level.
