CREATIVE AFlTS Expressing one's self through art Painting, molding, sculpting, weaving, intricate sketching . . .these are the broad and varied fields in which the Creative Arts Club participates. Under the leadership of sponsors Betti Boring and Sharon Rogers, the club has been active in many school and community projects. Many students entered the popular Garland Art Show and were extremely successful. At school, Art Club aided the Stu- dent Council with Homecoming. They helped do chalk etch- ings and assisted in decorating the cafeteria. Unlike other clubs, the Art Club specializes in a specific craft. As a club, they are constantly striving to improve their personal skill in areas of art and crafts. ...ff ga . is i :S N-D -A Y y x . , , . K , . . Speakers active in competition The ability to speak effectively is a highly valued trait. High school is a good training ground for speaking skills. The Speech and Debate Club is ac- tive in many areas of competition. At each contest, Lakeview is represented in duet acting, storytell- ing, prose, group improvisation, and debate. The speech team has par- ticipated in tournaments at Skyline and Optimist Club contests in the Spring. Participants in the Optmist Club contests were expected to pre- sent a seven minute speech on a chosen topic. Rules for the Rotary Club contest were along the same lines as those for the Optimist. Last year two members of the Speech Club who participated in these contests advanced as far as the state level.
