CLASS OF 1956 We, the seniors of 1956, have many wonderful memories from our school days at L.H.S. From the day we entered Laketon as scared youngsters, to the day we will be leaving, there has been something exciting, yet wonderful added to our lives. We started out in the first grade in 1944 with thirty-one enrolled. Our school life was quite a change, but we learned many new things and made many new friends. After eight years of hard work, we became freshmen. We were really getting up there, but still we thought very highly of the seniors and we had hope that someday we might be like them. Our class officers that year were: President, Evelyn Pearson; Vice President, Everett Wrightman; Secretary and Treasurer, Larry Bru- baker. In our sophomore year, our class officers were: President, Nancy French; Vice President, Everett Wrightsman; Secretary and Treasurer, Pat Metzger. Before we hardly knew it, we were juniors. We really worked hard to make money. We presented our first play, entitled, When I was Green. We also spon- sored the Junior and Senior Reception which was an all night event held in the school gymnasium. Our class officers were: President, Steve Vrooman; Vice President, Larry Brubaker; Secretary, Evelyn Pearson; and Treasurer, Pat Metzger. At last we were seniors. We again elected our class officers which were as follows: President, Steve Vrooman; Vice President, Ronald Dickerhoff; Secretary, Pat Metzger; Treasurer, Evelyn Pearson; and Reporter, Nancy French. Cur sponsors were Mr. Mertz, Mr. Spandau, and Mr. Sullivan. We presented our class play, Seventeen is Awfully Young on October 21. We worked very hard getting ready for our senior trip. These who have attended Laketon all twelve years are Pat Amiss, Larry Bru- baker, Ronald Dickerhoff, Ruth Ebbinghous, Marleah Frantz, Nancy French, Ted Hudson, Donald Long, Janice McCullough, Charlotte Ohmart, Evelyn Pearson, and Joyce Smith. We are looking forward to our graduation, but we realize, too, how much we are going to miss the smiles of our classmates and teachers. It is certain that our good days at Laketon shall never be forgotten. In Witness whereof, we have hereunto subscribed our name and affixed our seal this tenth day of May, in the year of our Lord, One Thousand Nine Hundred and Fifty-six. Witnesses: Perry Como George Gobel Howdy Doody LOOKING INTO THE FUTURE In the year of 1966, A.D. The other afternoon several of us were strolling down Laketon Avenue and decided to go over to the airport to see the new ticket building. As we entered the airport grounds we met a former Laketon student, Everett Wrightsman, who was waiting for the next plane to Dallas, Texas. You know, Everett is now presi- dent of the Mickey Mouse Mouse Trap Company there and is now supplying mouse traps for the H.A.A. (Hyp- notists Association of America.) After telling us all about the mouse trap factory, he told us the latest news about his classmates, the Class of 1956. On the previous Sunday they had met at Round Lake for their 10th-year class reunion. All of the graduates were present except Donald Long who was in Africa captur- ing six live lions for the Barnum Bailey Circus. He has been the lion tamer there for several years. John White also works there. He is the featured attraction in the Big Top as the tallest man in the world. He is now 11 feet 1 1 inches tall (when on his stilts). Everett then told us about Pat Amiss. She is repre- senting Ijamsville in the current Miss America contest to be broadcast on colored television over Laketon's T-l-G-E-R-S network. Marleah Frantz is now married and her husband has a large ranch in Colorado. She invited the Class of '56 there for their next reunion. Evelyn Pearson and Nancy French are in Yellow- tone Park operating a concessions stand. They enjoyed working at the concessions stand so much when they were seniors that they decided to make that their life work. Then Everett told us about Welby Simpson. He is now captain of the police force in Laketon. He decided he couldn't lick em so he'd join em. Ronnie Dickerhoff is looking forward to driving in the 500 mile race at Indianapolis. Yes, you guessed it. He's going to drive his Dad's Plymouth. Martha Kline, the senior from Florida, decided to return to Florida and take part in the high dive con- tests along the Atlantic. Pat Metzger has been an air stewardess, but an- nounced her engagement to a movie star while at our reunion. Peter Meyer, the exchange student from Germany, decided to remain in the United States. He is now a famous psychiatrist in Hollywood, California. Bill Kline and Larry Brubaker settled in Stringtown. Bill is dance master at the Kline Dance School, and Lar- ry operates the ADDING MACHINE FIXIT SHOP in Stringtown. Joyce Smith is working as secretary in the shop. On our next week-end jaunt to New York City, be sure to stroll down Frenchie Avenue where Shirley Lyons has her art work displayed along the curb. If you will stop and look up 13 stories to the little win- dow 20th from the left you might see Shirley peering over her trusty easel. Ruth Ebbinghous is also in New York City and is now a singer in the Metropolitan Opera House. Last winter, while we were in New York City, we visited a ballet show and were impressed by tUfe light- footedness of the star. After the show we inquired as to the identity of the star and were amazed to find that the slender and beautiful star was none other than Charlotte Ohmart. Janice McCullough is now Mighty Red, the lady wrestler, who often appears on the television network. Merl Wilson is now a movie actor. His first appear- ance will be in the movie Bachelor's Paradise. Ted Hudson, known in high school as Reckless Ted, is now the Drivers' Training Instructor at Laketon Univer- sity. Steve Vrooman is now the star snail pacer for the Olympic contests. Did we forget to tell you about any of the grad- uates of the Class of '56? Oh, yes, JoAnn Siegfred. She is enjoying herself very much as a chewing gum tester for the Smacky Wacky Chewing Gum Corpora- tion in Cucamongo, Rhode Island. We enjpyed our visit with Everett Wrightsman very much, and as his plane arrived we were sorry to bid him farewell. PRESENTING ... No, not yet... It is the story of the Eliot sisters: Jan, the favored, pampered darling, and Nickie, the mouse. A thumbnail sketch of the whole situation dissolves itself into what is really a tussle between brawn, beauty, and brains, with brains winning out for a change—which doesn't mean it's lacking in ooph—Oh no, there turns out to be plenty of that, with Goofer, the football hero, and that double-crossing Jan, who'd resort to anything to keep Jack Westmore. The able hand who was behind us was Mr. Ralph Boyer, our director. Standing: Steve Vrooman, Donald Long, Larry Brubaker, Ron- ald Dickerhoff, Shirley Lyons, Charlotte Ohmart, Evelyn Pear son, Everett Wrightsman. Seated: Pat Amiss, Pat Metzger, Janice McCullough. SENIOR CLASS PLAY “TOM SAWYER” Our Junior Class play was given December 7. This story centered around Tom Sawyer and his gang, Joe Harper and Huckleberry Finn. Poor dear Aunt Polly had her hands full trying to cope with this gang. Before the story ends we have listened to Tom and Becky's love affair and his escapade in the cemetery where he and Huckleberry Finn carried a black cat, at midnight, a superstition, which would remove warts. Here the boys saw a murder committed. The play closed on a little love scene between Tom and Becky Thatcher. The play was delightful and thrilling, and we had a lot of fun giving it. Back row: Larry Long, Steve Bradford, Roger AAontel, Jane Ann Burch. Second row: Judy Butler, Carl Rieken, Sandy Hopkins, Margie Kelly. Front row: Nelson Drudge, Jack Gray, Larry Weitzel, Nancy Lynch. Our officers were: President, Nancy French; Vice President, Judy Butler; Recording Secretary, Lois Keim; Corresponding Secretary, Pat Metzger; Treasurer, JoAnn Siegfred; and our sponsor was Mrs. Brown. FLORA FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA The Future Farmers of America, our F.F.A., is a national agriculture organiza- tion of, by, and for boys studying vocational agriculture. The primary aim of the F.F.A. is the development of agriculture leadership, cooperation, and citi- zenship. There were five Green Hands initiated this year into our F.F.A. This year's land judging team was very successful, for they placed first in the District and placed within the top twenty-five per cent at the State. They re- ceived a trophy for winning the District, which was presented to the school by the team. The team consisted of Donald Long, Steve Vrooman, John White, and Nelson Drudge. Some of the other major activities were the Halloween Carnival, a very success- ful crop and vegetable show, a pest contest, a trip to Chicago by the senior agriculture class, and a two-day trip to Detroit by the F.F.A. members. One of the most important activities was the F.F.A. farm. The boys rented twenty-four acres of which eighteen was in corn and six in soy beans. The soy beans paid for the expenses and the corn was all profit. The money was used for a two- day trip to Detroit. Top row: Larry Long, Donald Long, Wilmer Metzger, Maurice Lipply, Ned Schuler, Steve Vrooman, Don Mylin, Nelson Drudge.
