Mathematics is a moving subject. It has been progressing since the beginning of man. This year the Lakeside students have been carry- ing on this progress by learning and using old and new methods. Many of the seventh graders are finding new. hoi ' izons in their study of modern math. Some eighth and ninth grade students are learning about the immensities of the study of algebra. A few ninth graders are studying Euclidean style geom- etry. All students are furthering their knowledge for use in the years ahead. General Math In General Mathematics students learn basic ideas of math. Lancers Apply Mathematical Skills Algebra Algebra abilities are enhanced in Mr. Trott ' s class. Geometry Mr. Lesb has a busy hour with his double X geome- try class. He spends the hour explaining assump- tions, theories, and geometric figures. 14

Astronomy Biology Mr. Feaser ' s Astronomy classes find there ' s more than one thing to do under the stars. Biology is one of the most informative classes in the curriculum. It is taught by Mr. Anderson and Mr. Karonovich. Science: Key Interest In School Curriculum Science Science plays an impor- tant part in the life of a student at Lakeside. In the 7th and 8th grade, every student takes Gen- eral Science. General Sci- ence stimulates interest in science, a field of study which many students may pursue for a career. In 9th grade every student has a choice between Gen- eral Science and Biology. Biology provides a firm foundation for more spe- cialized studies of organic sciences. Mrs. Beckner ' s science classes explore the many worlds of science. 13

Home Arts j Seventh graders learn the methods of home arts from Mr. Eckart. Home Economics Girls leam basic skills of home economics in Miss French ' s class. Lancers Obtain Skills In Future Home Talents Shop Shop class delves into woodwork, metalwork, electricity, and plastics. There are three basic parts to Lakeside ' s vocational arts pro- gram. Industrial arts is taught to all eighth grade boys and some ninth grade boys. They are taught the basic use and knowledge of tools. Home economics is taught to all eighth grade girls and some ninth grade gii ' ls. Home arts is taught to all seventh graders entering Lakeside. Students are instructed in common household repairs, good grooming, proper diet, and other aspects of their immediate environment in home arts.
