Hard Work, Team Spirit Develop Winning Team 1962 NINTH GRADE TOURNAMENT CHAMPS ARE ROW 1: Steve Cristman, Steve Tryon Qstudent managersj, Steve Osborn, Larry Wells, Dave Moser, Mike Bedree, Dave Friedrich, Ian Vanderwallg ROW 2: Mr. Schoeff, assistant coach, Rick Beaverson, Don Rice, Jim Shafter, Steve Monnot, Mark Lang, Ed Harris, Greg Crawford, and Mr. Wittmer, varsity coach. The Lancers won ten out of twelve regular season games this year to become the league champs. A traveling league trophy was presented to the team. In tournament play, they advanced to the final game, defeat- ing Portage 45-33. As champions of the junior high basketball tourney, they received another trophy. MEMBERS OF THE JUNIOR VARSITY TEAM FOR 1961-62 were ROW 1: Mike Latham qstudent managerj, Dick Stobaugh, Tom Beaver, Dick Watson, Lee Melchi, Dennis Shuler, Bob Jackson qstudent managery, ROW 2: Bill Bordner, Mr. Schoeff, coach, Bob McKee, Doug Ruhl, Steve Bradley, John Knoll, Brad Korn, Phil Kreig, Kent Beaverson, Peter Meister, Jim Fairman, and Mr. Wittmer. 'frat -U ten Lakeside's football squad gave the fans something to cheer about during the 1961 season. A really impressive record of five wins and one tie was chalked up by the boys under the expert guidance of head coach Chuck Adams. ADAMS INSTILLED A championship caliber of football and sportsmanship in the Lancer gridmen who gave it everything they had right down to the last second of the last game in which they tied with Northwood's Cardinals. Junior varsity cheer leaders are left to right: Beverly Schmid, Sandy Franzman, Judy Douglas, Mrs. Beckner, Kay Durfey, Dianne Gibson, and Karen Tonne. Our varsity cheer leaders, under the di- rection of Mrs. Beckner, led the student body in cheering during both the football and bas- ketball seasons. They are: Mrs. Beckner, Melody Melchi, Karen Palm, Connie Redding, Jill Borkenstein, Carol Tomlinson, and Linda Hasewinkle.
