Our school day begins with announce- ments made over the public address system by Mr. McSwane. OUR PRINCIPAL Mr. McSwane dictates a letter to school secretary, Mrs. Bobilya. An indispensable person at Lakeside is our staff assistant, Mr. Miller, who may be found teaching a home arts class, assisting the principal, counseling a student, supervising students in the cafetorium, sitting in on a student council meeting, or developing somephase of the school guid- ance program. Our friendly but very busy secretaries, Mrs. Bobilya and Mrs. Messerschmidt, divide their time among keeping the school records, assisting the principal and teachers, and lending a helping hand to students. On November 8 Lakeside students went to the polls to cast their ballots in a mock presidential election, arranged by history teachers, Miss Marie Johnston and Mr. Thomas Schuckel. Eight voting booths had been installed, and students who had previously regis- tered entered the booths, where they could vote either a straight ticket or split their tickets. Bob Keller. Mr. Walter Wolf was the boys ' coach. Members of Lakeside ' s 1960 Cross Country Team were: row 1, Kenneth Hill, manager, Steve Sutton, Neil Tustison, Graham Richards, Stan Smith, Phil Myers; row 2, Pat Johnson, Steve Os- born, David Munson, Tim Applegate, Larry Miller. Coaching the boys was Mr. Richard Trott. With Coach Adams at the helm, our football team had a successful season, winning all of its games. Mr. Wittmer acted as assistant coach. Our varsity cheer leaders are coached by Miss Kat ' herine Vonderau. Dawn Johnston and Chris Rider, outstanding girl athletes, have proven their skill not only in girls ' basketball but in volleyball, deck tennis, bowling, and Softball as well. Coach Chuck Adams was at the helm of our eighth grade basketball team this year which won 11 of 12 ballgames. Jim Shaffer, our starting center and leading scorer, was awarded a trophy as outstanding player in the junior division of the tournament. ii CffiS 1960-61 The ninth grade Lancers came through for the Blue and Gold this year, winning 13 of 15 games. This was Coach Joe Wittmer ' s first year at Lakeside, and his team had a most suc- cessful season. Dave Munsonwho had an excellent season and scored 23 points in the final game was awarded a trophy as the outstanding player in the tournament.
