ven though fifty years have come and gone, the students who helped build Lakeside had a great deal of pride in the buildings' appearance, too. They were proud of the steam heated building, bright and shiny walls, overhead lights, and outdoor plumbing. If anyone was caught defacing or damaging the building, they were either thrashed with a hickory stick or forced to apologize to the entire student body during an assem- bly. At Lakeside in its early years, fashions were somewhat limited because of lack of money. Girls usually wore skirts and blouses with sailor-type collars called middy blouses.
