ven though fifty years have come and gone, the students who helped build Lakeside had a great deal of pride in the buildings' appearance, too. They were proud of the steam heated building, bright and shiny walls, overhead lights, and outdoor plumbing. If anyone was caught defacing or damaging the building, they were either thrashed with a hickory stick or forced to apologize to the entire student body during an assem- bly. At Lakeside in its early years, fashions were somewhat limited because of lack of money. Girls usually wore skirts and blouses with sailor-type collars called middy blouses. Each building has the newest facilities and the most modern equipment which aids in making school a more com- fortable place to be. There is a football stadium, a field house, an art building, an ROTC build- ing, and a kindergarten build- ing. There is a picnic area sur- rounded by pleasant shade trees, and plenty of grassy spots inviting students to come and absorb the warm sunlight. Courtyards provide a place for students to relax, eat, and talk to their friends. There is a staff of about 40 in high school who teach a variety of courses and are willing to help the students.
