The 1.R.O.T.C. has 140 cadets this year, the largest group ever at Lakeside. Instructors Col. Williams and Sgt. Clark led the group to attain Honor Unit with Distinction, putting them in the top five percent in the nation. They scored 97.72 out of 100 in their annual inspection by the army. Their honors and achievements are too numerous to name, but they competed in such events as: Orienteering Workshop , OBU competition, drill and rifle team meet at Arkansas Tech, UCA Rifle Match, Irving, Texas, meet, Baton Rouge, Louisiana meet, Pentathalon at OBU, Ft. Chaffee meet at Fort Smith, Shreveport, Louisiana, meet, and two meets at Lakeside. The ROTC had winners in all areas of competition. In individual firing Donny Moore, Randy Wages, and Tommy Cooper competed in a target match with 60,000 nation- wide competitors. These cadets won the right to compete in an all-expense paid trip to a National Pellet Rifle Match in Rogers, Arkansas. This year makes the fourth year in which the Lakeside Rifle Team has taken first place team and high shooter in EVERY ONE of their meets. Col. Williams and Sgt. Clark are quick to give credit to the students. Sgt. Clark said, This has been a very good year for the ROTC Department, and it was all made possible by the students-- their willingness to sacrifice their time and to put forth that extra effort to accomplish the goals for which we set out to accomplish. However, two dignitaries from the army were sent to Lakeside to give special recognition to Col. Williams and Sgt. Clark! J.R. O. T. C. SY' -m ff 7 ...yu WN 0 H 7'lfVLf' V ' C at it '
