I-IOME ECONOMICS-Home Ec is offered to grades 9-12. A student may take Home Ec I, II, and III. Mrs. Bobbie Thompson teaches all of the classes. Home Ec units include: Clothing construction, basic foods, meal plnning, table service, child development, home management, how to be a wise consumer, marriage and family, relationships, personal and family living, food preservation, interior decorating, and careers in home economics, Labs are conducted in food and clothing, films are shown throughout the year, a two-week kindergarten is held for ages 2 through 5 in conjunction with the study of child development, field trips to observe the actual construction of housing projects from the beginning to the finished project, demonstrations by outsiders on various topics, and speakers. VOCATIONAL-The vocational program at Lakeside in- cludes: Shop I and II, Mechanical Drawing, Vo-Tech, and C. C. E. Students who attend Quapaw Vo-Tech take three courses here at school and then are transported to town to take courses at Vo-Tech. Through the Coordinated Careers Education classes, we hope that each student will be more informed and better prepared for the world of work. Goals of the technical drawing program are: To develop the ability to communicate the language of industry, science and technology, to provide for creative thinking in problem solving, to learn and practice good drawing techniques and good design. Goals of the wood shop are: To develop pro- ficiency in the use of wood tools, to devleop safe working habits, to provide for both vocational and avocational in- terests. Mr. Helms teaches Shop I and II and Mechanical Drawing and Ms. Parnell teaches Career Education. ART-Artl is offered to grades 8- 12. Lakeside had Art II for the first time this year. This year students have exhibited their work at the Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock, Southern Artist Association, Central Regional Art Show and the ASU Art Exhibit. The Art Department brought the Arkansas Art Mobile to our campus in April.
