The 1975 Varsity season was characterized by aggressive, intense play defensively and an even combination of run and pass, offensively. Reaction, pursuit, and gang tackling was stressed this sea- son on defense. Except for two poorly played games, we had an outstanding year controlling the opponent's running game, limiting them to 150 yards per game. Our best effort came from our secondary in setting a school record of just 56 yards per game allowed through the air. Individual standouts for our defensive unit were Craig Shafer, who set a new school record of 126 tackles and was an All-Conference performer; Jim Porter, our monster back and another defense All-Conference player; Tom Jager, who led us with 4 interceptions (one for a touchdown); and Pat Newell, who played a very steady defensive tackle for us. Offensive standouts were Kevin Campbell, a junior quarter- back; Mark Krager, who led the team in rushing with 507 yards; Tom Jager, who led in pass receptions and was an All- Conference performer; and Pat Newell, who made the All- League team as an offensive tackle. Craig Shafer was chosen Most Valuable Player by his teammates. The team was coached by Dave Topping, Dave Price, and Jim Sanford. 1. Keith Arend, the Lancer's punter. 2.
