The Marching Lancers This year’s marching season was a year of many firsts. In Au- gust we met our new marching director Mr. Bembenek, at Band Camp. With Mr. Bembenek and Mr. Lesser combining their thoughts, thev came up with some great shows and dance routines. One of these featured the band playing a song on Kazoos. At the I jkeshore vs. St. Joe football game, the Battle of the Bands was won bv the Lancer Band. Our pride and joy of the band, was the new set of “Timp-Toms” which were placed beautifully by Mark Sanford. In October, two new awards the Outstanding Squad Award and the Left Boot Award were given to two very deserving squads. At the Marching Festival in St. Joe, the hand received a second- division rating. The band ended the season marching in the Blos- somtime Parade. 1974-1975 Majorettes: L to R—Sandy Hora. Vicky Kemp. Cathy Hart. (Head Majorette) and Melanie Hendrix. Our Drum Major and Drum Majorette. Volker Caul and Cai! Nichols. Our Fearless Leaden???? Drills and Patterns You’Id never know we were getting our picture taken!!! THE LANCER BAND The A Band under the direction of Mr. Lesser, at the Christmas Concert. In the class division the first place award went to the Junior Class float, with the theme of Mutiny on the Bounty.” In the club division, F.FA. pulled an upset with their theme “Wizard of Oz.” Jim Bradtke, an- nouncer for the afternoon assembly, kept the students’ spirits high with his deranged comments. During the course of this year they had hakesales, sold Homecoming mums, and had two boothes at the Winter Carnival. They helped at the home wrestling meets by score- keeping and award giving. In the Variety Show they changed their wholesome image to become a sexy chorus for the opening Caba- ret number. Their home hasketball game per- formances included one done with little girls (in which they were totally out done by their younger prodgies), a speciality routine done with flashlights, and of course, their regular array of routines done to the superb music of the Pep Band. Quill and Scroll 177 STUDENT COUNCIL The Student Council at Lakeshore High School involves 40 members performing many activities. To begin the year, the council sponsored a fantastic Home- coming with the theme Academy Awards. Following with this theme, the 3rd annual Variety Show was presented by the Council. In January the council worked many hours putting together an outstanding Winter Carnival. Throughout the year Representatives worker! in the Snack Bar and provided student assemblies. Four members represented Lake- shore in the new Bloosomland Council, where much was accom- plished in the way of inter-school relationships. Open Lunch was negotiated for, but lack of enthusiasm on the students part caused the dropping of this committee. With funds from the Variety Show, the council purchased a stereo system for the cafeteria. The Student Council is the most powerful organization in the school. It is the only voice the Administration will listen to con- cerning policy changes. With the students backing the council, changes can be made at LHS. STUDENT COUNCIL 179 AUDITORIUM MANAGEMENT The 1974-75 Auditorium Staff The most unrecognized organization in the high school is the Auditorium Stage Crew. No show could possibly be complete without the help of these kids. They are not a club, but a hard working group of students who enjov work- ing the various technical areas of producing a show. Mem- bers range from Freshmen to Seniors. Starting members must work 40 hours on stage work, including 6 shows in the auditorium and be approved by Mr. Lindahl, to gain full stage crew membership. The highest position, which was held this year by Mike Dent and Todd Brozovich, is Senior Technician. To reach this you must have a complete knowl- edge of the workings of the auditorium, be responsible, know how to work with rentals, and be approved by three teachers, the principal, and by Mr. Lindahl. There were many shows put on this year that involved a lot of work, a lot of time, and a lot of patience; but the kids still came through with such great productions as: The Vari- ety Show, “Flower Drum Song”, “Ten Nights In A Bar- room , and the Band and Choir Concerts. Also included were Professional Programs: Dave Bruebeek, Roger Wil- liams, The Hungarian Folk Ballet, the McDowell Choir of Wisconsin, and The Boston Svmphonv Orchestra. With all the experience gained this year, next year should prove twice as successful for this dedicated group. Members of the 1974-75 Auditorium Staff included: Bob Lhrik, Mike Bradly. Going on field trips and working on scientific projects is what usually takes place. The Science Club meets about once very 2 weeks. Out- side of the meetings, the club goes on various field trips. The first field trip was to Whirl- pool’s Computer Center. Here we saw 6 million dollar com- puters at work transferring in- formation. The second field trip was to Andrew's Science Building.
