WRESTLING Freshman conference champ. Mark Krager, is amused by his opponent’s efforts to escape. The Lakeshore Wrestling team concluded its best season ever and appears to be on its way to becoming a Southwestern Michigan power. Captain Ken Bailey led Mark Mohler, Rick McGrath, and Mark Krager in completing an impressive 9-3 dual meet record. Although the matmen managed only a third in the conference, they still set some impressive records. Mark Krager and Rick McGrath were the conference champs and both will be back next season. Ken Bailey, Stan Schuck, and Mark Mohler were the conference runner-ups with Schuck and Mohler returning along with Ed Krager who was 13-1 before becoming ineligible. Mohler, Bailey, Krager and McGrath led Lakeshore to a third place finish, 1 j point out of se- cond place in the Districts. All four of them advanced to the Regionals. Rick McGrath, Mark Krager and Ken Bailey advanced to the semi-finals of the Regionals before being beaten. Ken Bailey fought back in the consolation to take third and advance to the State Tournament at Western Michigan. At Western Ken won two matches and although he didn’t place, he was the first Lancer mat- man ever to place higher than 4th in the Regionals and win a match at State. Coach Bittenbender is certainly optimistic about the future as only Ken Bailey departs. The balance of next year’s team should improve considerably with the return of Tom Rennack, Scott Hosnidl, Kim Sisson, Rick Runge, Mike Miston, Marc Snyder, Steve Schmidtke, Gene Miston, along with the Krager brothers, Rick McGrath, Mark Mohler, and Stan Schuck. 21
