Lakeshore High School Stevensville, Michigi Graduates ■ii V 1| Per Aspera Ad Astra (Through difficulties to the stars) These past few years have been filled, brimming with un- told experiences,- problems, joys and many friends. When- ever we meet, may joy come as we say, Remember when . . May the problems we encounter now increase, so that our friendships will grow stronger and surer. As a result— our joys will increase as we overcome these difficulties in reaching for our stars. Let us always thank God for the dim lights in the valley as well as for flaming stars on the moun- tain top. Our Hearts Were Young and Gay now, come aero  —who' got my hoes?!!?! 31 Mrs. Foune’s in Her Office All’s Right W ith the School 34 you wonder why we have this large picture of mrs. foune at the side of the page? the reason is simple, we are dedicat- ing this entire great won- derful book to her—be- cause she is such a great, wonderful person. dignified as always . . . dignified did we say? well, anyway, here she is in one of her more casual moments, we can see that she cannot bear to be away from those students who are so much a part of her life, but then can you blame her? at any rate she seems to be enjoying herself. yes, as we were saying- dignified. it is seldom, how- ever, that we can find mrs. foune at her typewriter; what with listening to highly im- plausible excuses for tardi- ness, collecting money, report cards, and complaints, and repairing those obstinate, de- fective candy machines, so we thank you, mrs. foune, for being so helpful, so cheer- ful, and most of all for put- ting up with us for so long. 35 The Principal me: hi! he: hi! me: i'm supposed to interview you for our great annual. he: oh, great! me.- i may remind you that anything you say may be used against you. first of all, do you have any hobbies? he-. oh, yes. hunting, fishing, reading. me: be on the alert, students! any pet peeves? he: i don't want to say—here, oh, no, don't put that down!—uh, nothing in particular—that are pet peeves, noth- ing bothers me too much, me: oh, good, do you have any mem- ories? he: i like to remember my coaching days. me.- what did you coach? he: basketball, baseball, football, i also enjoy reminiscing about my college basketball days and college days in general, me: where? he: oh, at michigan tech., northern michi- gan state university. me.- how about your ambitions at this point? he: —chuckle—i'd like to see lakeshore high school become one of the outstanding, if not the outstanding, high school in the state of michigan. me.- hurrah! he: we have the staff, faculty and students to do so. me.- feel brave enough for any additional comments? he: well, i've enjoyed my first year here and look forward to many, more happy years to come. me: good. he: —as i was exiting—wait, i do have two so-called pet peeves. me.- yes, yes!!??? he: the taste for music at noon hour and students who sign up at pre-registration and then change classes. me.- students, beware, farewell, mr. olmstead—and many thanks, may i now have a pass— please!? 36 The Superintendent from iran to china, germany to the Philippines, mexico to new Zealand—one can find dr. ebel- ling's students all over, and now he is so very lucky to have us, too. (how fortunate can he be?) he is even brave enough to admit he enjoys us immensely. he agrees that lakeshore is his most challenging project yet. the major problem is bringing all the parts into a whole to make one happy family. but since dr. ebeling is working with a rather wonderful administration—a fine group of men and women —he may just succeed, hoozonna, and ditto!!! by his own confession, he was something like we are (eeeeeeeks!) when he was in high school (back in the dark ages in the beginnings of detroit). somehow he managed not to goof-off so very much to travel all over the good 'ole u.s . . . , guard ft. knox, and teach at several schools and universities around the area, (or is it because he has such a ripping sense of humor and captivating personality that he is such a good guy —i dunno—may be.) anyway, he is now here with the great lancers, leading the full rewarding, academically reward- ing, life that he desires, his aim is to administrate the schools in such a way that they become the finest in the state of michigan . . . ta-rah!N mr. glenn g. groner, our biology teacher, received his b.s. in zoology from michigan state university. mr. arnold e. lesser obtained his b.m.e. and m.m. at northwestern university—teaches in- strumental music. mr. glenn arter, our chemistry and phy- sical science teacher, received his b.s. from hillsdale college and his m.a. from western michigan university. mr. philip steinweg, who teaches first and second year algebra, advanced mathematics, and physics, received his b.a. from andrews university. 39 mrs. natalie hutson earned her b.a. from western michigan university, she teaches english and speech—also directs class plays. 40 mrs. arlene stover received her b.a. from michigan state univer- sity—teaches sophomore and jun- ior english. mr. anthony korican got his b.s. and m.a. from michigan state university, he is teaching vocational agriculture. mrs. elaine mccraith received her b.s. from iowa state and her m.s. from michigan state, she teaches home economics and psychology-family living. 42 mr.
