lfxktlll Career Cen ter Bequea ths Knowledge he Career Center, directed by Mr. Perry Newell, helped students identify educational and occupational needs through discussions, ex- periences, and observations. Potential careers were ex- plored in career forums, field trips and Explorer and Scouting programs. A large collection of printed materials gave students in-depth infor- mation on careers. Mr. Newell was very in- terested in the overseas study programs which, like th Crusades, opened new world to Lakes students. An excellent source of infor- mation, his motto was Career Education CountsSSS. a f s v f-1 , . W ' Qi P-iii 'ml .ff kv' N Q 1 'f-.5 ' -u 1 A f Nil X... X54 T., T. ,, ,ji -X a ' J r . ,WW t G. -5? Members Learn About the B in FBLA 1 F' 4' N. -if ii If ,Haw ...www Q mhe Future Business Leaders of America Club oriented students to the business community and helped them to become confident and grow as individuals. The only requirement ,for membership was an interest in business, business classes were not prerequisites. Besides inviting guest speakers, the students went to leadership conferences and competitive events. In order to raise mone to attend these events and to hyave socials, the members had various fund raisers. The members ac- quired responsibility skills from these fund raisers because the amount of money which was credited to their account was deter- mined by their partic?Jation. This money was used to o fset the cost of transportation for the special events. In this way, the FBLA members illustrated their commer- cial knowledge. This year the officers were very good and hardworking. There was only one returning officer from last year, Vaughnetta jenkins, but the other new officers were former FBLA members. The officers were as follows: president Vaughnetta jenkins vice president Tracy Wat- son, secretary, Gaby Wright,- treasurer, Pam Ashbaugh, parliamentarian, Carol Sampaga, historians Sue Ventura, Tina Kailimai, and reporter - Kathy Shelton. To sum up this year, Vaughnetta said, I think this year's members were more active than last ear because we had ex- periencedybfficers and a group that was interested in business.
