D.E.C.A. Provides Opportunities Ghe Distributive Education Clubs of America, a composite of cooperating classes and a club, charged on this year. The club both reinforced the goals and objectives of sales and marketing classes and taught leadership. Both job skills and good human relations were emphasized. DECA also held many successful fundraisers this year. It held bake sales, offered gift wrapp- ing at Villa Plaza, managed the Cove and Hanger, and sponsored the lip sync contest and dance. The dance turned out to be the biggest in Lakes'history. This year, Lakes welcomed three returning students who attended the National Competi- tion in Chicago last year. To attend the national competition, the students had to compete at an area, then state competition. Two of the com- petitors, Debbie Hill and Lori Greene, were outstanding at these competitions. Both of them finished in the top 50 people in Chicago. The other returning member was Anne Marie Dube. Because she was a state officer, the public rela- tions vice-president, she represented Washington in Chicago. Thanks to these outstanding members, the participation of the other members, and the assistance of the ad- visor, Mr. Burton, DECA had another successful year. lfxktlll Career Cen ter Bequea ths Knowledge he Career Center, directed by Mr. Perry Newell, helped students identify educational and occupational needs through discussions, ex- periences, and observations. Potential careers were ex- plored in career forums, field trips and Explorer and Scouting programs. A large collection of printed materials gave students in-depth infor- mation on careers. Mr. Newell was very in- terested in the overseas study programs which, like th Crusades, opened new world to Lakes students.
