PE Shapes Up 5 tretching with taut muscles that would not stretch, running with sides that ached, swimming with eyes that burned from the chlorine were some of the plans the PE department concocted for Lakes students. Special Ed Meets Needs Special Education consisted of two programs. One program was to aid the student with a learning disability: a difficulty with collecting, sorting, storing, or expressing information. Therefore, many of these students had problems with reading, writing, or numbering. Special Education emphasized mainstreaming by en- couraging half of its students to participate in regular classes. The other program was self-contained for the multiple handicapped student. This program utilized the vocational school two hours a day for the Vocational Individualized Program in which the students gained a work skill. VIP also bridged the gap between high school and post graduate training for these students. These students had adaptive PE for two hours in addition to Mrs. janet Mortensen 's academic lessons. The well trained, compatible, and supportive staff contributed to the pleasing atmosphere. This atmosphere helped the students develop confidence and concentrate on their strengths so they could overcome their learning disability.

Cafeteria Workers Really Cooking qbne of the hardest, yet least rewarding jobs at Lakes is that of a cafeteria worker. Everyday these ladies hear complaint upon complaint about the food they cook but, strangely enough, students line up every day in order to quell their hunger pangs. Perhaps it is because these ladies do a fine job of supplying empty stomachs with tasty, wholesome food and should be, although not always are, thanked for their efforts. 1. Mary Gorham, Head Cook 2. Mary Gorham, jo Addaman, and Hildegard Sapegin. 3. Io and Hildegard prepare tater tots. 4. jo Addaman working also as cashier. ?? 140
