A S P Syn tl1es1zes and Analyzes ln addition to acquiring new knowledge, students in the Advanced Studies Program, with the help of Mrs. jan Olson, learned to analyze and synthesize new concepts, propose new ideas and evaluate them. Students also developed a positive self-image, respect for and understanding of the rights of others, and responsibility toward themselves and society. Mrs. Olson, a specialist in individualized pro- grams, guided students toward fulfillment of these goals in various independent studies. The basic independent study was an in-depth research project in which the students chose a topic in an interest area, researched it, created new knowledge, and presented it in a unique way. Another option was a mentorship which permitted students to work with a professional in his or her preferred career field. Through these programs students endeavored to ac- complish these goals.
