Business Classes Boom B espite cutbacks in other departments, the business depart- ment thrived. The Co- operative Office Educa- tion program, COE, placed students in of- fices working as secretaries and book- keepers. Many of these jobs paid immediately, while others promised full-time jobs after graduation. It was one program that enabled students to go right into the workforce. Although the program started just last year, it has been working very efficiently. The depart- ment also received new equipment. Three new word processors were bought for the depart- ment. The word pro- cessor will someday prove to be indispensi- ble to the business world. just as different orders of monasticism arose and disappeared, the business depart- ment seemed to be blooming in the midst of cut-backs. Foreign Language Lays Foundation abc foreign language department con- tinued to lay a founda- tion for later study. Ac- cording to Mr. Savoy, foreign language is very usable. Many of my students have been to Germany or have German parents. Mrs. Bonnie Rediske agreed. There are a growing number of Spanish U.S. Because of this, the department concen- trated on giving the students the tools necessary for later use. Computers Crea te New Aspect for Math Department abc math department worked effectively to keep ahead of the n e w c o m p u t e r technology. To suc- ceesfully prepare students for mathe- matical challenges in life, new computer pro- gramming classes were added. The day will come when people ig- norant of computers will be considered il- 1 literate, said depart- ment head Mary Max- well. Even teachers are taking classes trying to catch up. Computers have revolutionized everythingp almost every department has one. She saw the changes as positive unless there were programming er- rors. Then the horror stories could begin.
