Literature a Means to the End. Ehe English depart- ment served as a source of frustration and enlightenment for weary scholars at Lakes High School. The tumult of writing and grammar confounded the sophomores as they waded through piles of homework, while their predecessors, the juniors and seniors, mourned the arrival of their latest term paper assignment.
